There is a very seclusive unique sight where you will have to hike back to camp in. It is important to plan to pack lightly for this sight and plan a 10 minute hike in. There is lots of nature, birding and old growth oaks. Fishing and kayaking are allowed on part of the property and nearby trail systems into Van Patten Woods.

Nice secluded campsite in the woods with a great view of some open wetlands. We showed up at dusk so the mosquitoes were poised for attack, but the deep woods off kept them at bay while we setup. Once it was dark they completely went away and we were able to sit around the campfire and enjoy the beautiful evening. The firewood provided was nice and dry without a single pop or crack during the whole fire. We did hear a few passing trains and some traffic noise during the evening but nothing that negatively impacted our stay.

Tom was great at communicating during the reservation process (and we booked last minute), and Anna warmly greeted us upon arrival & brought us over to the campsite, which is located in a secluded wooded clearing between a hayfield and wetland.

They allowed us use of their backyard fishing spot (complete with friendly goats and ducks) and even gave us some fresh eggs for breakfast (what a treat!). Bug spray was a life saver, and we enjoyed the coyote howls at night, multitude of bird songs in the morning, and generous supply of firewood.

While you can hear cars and trains at this primitive campsite (no water, table, toilet), you have the space to yourself and a pretty pastural view, which is exactly what we needed, just 15 minutes away from Winthrop Harbor where we enjoyed a fishing charter.

Wooded, private campsite nestled between hayfield and wetlands. View from 🏕Friendly goats by the fishing spot.

2 sites available. I stayed nearing the house right near the banks of a charming little river. Roaring fire already goi h for me when I arrived after dark. Anna, the host, is incredibly welcoming. Baby goats, geese and ducks abound and love to be fed... if you’re into that kind of thing
