37 acres and amazing sunsets await you at my working conservation tree farm called Rocky Hill Farms. The farm hosts an organic garden from which you can pick when in season, a 2.5 acre native Illinois prairie with walking paths, and 32 acres of woodlands. There's a few mowed trails that will get you into deeper woods and to some really cool rock outcroppings on the property. Most of the fun just happens when you wander in the woods. I have two campsites currently available. I'm making available my large firepit if you choose to gather with me or other campers.
Im out every weekend but I’m trying to make this as turnkey as possible. For example the portable potty tent may not be set up upon arrival. That’s because high winds tend to blow things like this over. Best to put up each time. If I get there before you I’ll set it up. I hope to leave the supply box at each site. If for some reason it’s not there, both supply boxes (and portable tents) may be at the workbench off the lower driveway by parking and woodshed. Theres extra camp chairs too - just ask or grab them. First come first served. Please don’t feel that you’re interrupting me. I’ve got bags games and giant jenga on the front porch - just walk on up. There’s horseshoes in the front yard. Forgot something - just ask! I have extra camping supplies handy.
Main firepit with 8 Adirondack chairs are for everyone to use. Me included! I also have at least one tree pod cabana which is a lovely way to spend an hour!
Site One (1 tent only): The Pines. Just off the front driveway, is a stand of pines. Easy walk in to this area where you can set up tent and enjoy. Fire ring with grate, portable supply box includes popup potty tent, portable toilet and supplies, paper towels, fire starter and lighter. .
Site Two (1 or 2 tents only). The Walnut Grove. Max 4 people (unless you have kids, then 6 is okay) Located at the end of the long prairie, this site has great views and is a short walk to the rock outcropping. Site includes a supply box with portable popup potty tent, portable toilet and supplies, paper towels, fire starter and lighter.
Each campsite will be mowed down and clear of debris, and will have a fire ring. Wood available for $5/bundle. I'll deliver if I'm home, otherwise, wood is in the woodshed off the driveway. Take a bundle leave $5 in the box. Plenty of loose branches though to get you started.
In February/March I make maple syrup.
In summer, I make jams, sauces and salsas for sale. Ask me!
Site One: The Pines. 1 tent, max 2 people. Located at the front of the property, this stand of pine trees is the perfect spot to pitch your tent. Park your car by the path into the trees or in the driveway parking area. A wheelbarrow is available at the main house if you need help getting heavy items in. It's only a minute walk to the site from the front yard - but it will feel very secluded.
Site Two: The Walnut Stand. For 1 or 2 tents. Max 4 people, unless you have kids, in which case up to 6. Park in the lower level driveway, by the shed. Walk about 200 yards to the campsite. A wheelbarrow may be available for your use. Most secluded and furthest from the house, but more in an open area surrounded by trees. Right off the walking path around the prairie, so you may see other walkers. Also, closest to the rock outcroppings by trail. Great sunrise views to the east, and sunset and Mississippi River and valley at the rock outcropping (shared - and not dedicated to one specific site.)
Site 3: RV parking spot available with hookup for water (hose) and electricity via extension cords, in lower parking lot by house. Electricity is standard, and is not 30 amp. No pump out service. Please inquire first.

My two children and I stayed at the walnuts campsite. The hike is short to the campsite so if you forget anything in the car no big deal. It is a great spot near several trails on the property. One of which is an amazing view of the valley below. Kathy is a great host who will look out for you and give you space to enjoy the outdoors. She showed us all the supplies she laid out and gave tips on where to explore. The caves in Iowa are 30 minutes away and downtown Galena is about 15-20 minutes away. We look forward to returning and continuing to explore the area.

We had a fabulous experience at Kathy’s Rocky Hill Farms. She had everything set up for us when we arrived; firewood, adirondack chairs, pooped tent with supplies and 5 gallon bucket with water. She had thought of everything and couldn’t have been more accommodating!
The location is stunning. We over looked a grassy field with mature trees and the sight was surrounded by a walnut grove.
It is a little hike to the sight, which made it all the more remote. The sunshine set further down the trail was beautiful with two chairs waiting for us to view.
We will definitely be back and will plan to stay at least 2 night and have more time to explore the woods.
