Rancho Del Comienzo is located at the intersection of Somonauk Creek and the Fox River. 150+ years ago, it was a commonly used Native American encampment. Now it is the site fo Rancho Del Comienzo Hay and Horses. We ask that if you find an arrowhead that you respect the land and leave it where it lays.
Somonauk Creek is a known spawning ground of musky and other Illinois river fish. There is access to both the Fox River and Somonauk Creek for kayaking, canoeing, fishing and other water-activities!

Awesome private campsite on the river. Site was very spacious with giant fire pit and picnic table. Mike was an excellent host and I would definitely stay again
We enjoyed our stay at Rancho Comienzo!
We had room to set up 3 tents, had three hammocks up, and the kids just wanted to play in the creek. This was a peaceful, spacious, clean, and welcoming environment.
Several people from our trip enjoyed a canoe trip downs the Fox River.
Taylor and Mike were quick to communicate and wonderful hosts. We all enjoyed watching Taylor train her horses. Thanks for a great stay.

Mike and Taylor's campground is akin to Mother Nature herself stretching out with arms wide open to greet you. Towering trees, flowing water, hooting owls, even majestic horses fuel inner tranquility as you settle into your respite from routine. Ample, soft patches of Earth create a natural site for setting up your temporary domicile roughly 15 - 20 yards from the fire pit. Natural wood is easy to find around the site but I suggest purchasing firewood ahead of time from Mike or locally (especially when it's rainy as we experienced). The town and bars are roughly 5 - 10 minutes away if you need supplies, and Starved Rock is about 30 minutes away. Corner Bar is a particularly fun spot with a digital jukebox and shuffleboard table. If I haven't already enticed you nor made it entirely obvious, I'd highly recommend this site. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy. 🤘😎🤘
