A stay at Willowthorne offers a unique getaway experience with fresh air and natural beauty where the sunsets are gorgeous and the stars light up the sky! Our farm is host to nine acres of agricultural space that combines organic farming practices, education and hospitality.
We offer tent camping for small groups and retreats. Our campgrounds overlook the pond and willow trees. We also allow space for small RVs or Campers (no power hook-up available at this time).
Our area offers an incredible variety of recreational and sightseeing activities. Find peace and tranquility among nature, or travel just 25 miles north to visit the heart of Chicago! We are central to many Illinois, Indiana and Michigan State Parks and beaches. Many good restaurants and breweries are also nearby. There is much to see and do around our quiet little corner.
We are an organic farm with bees and native pollinating insects. Broadcast pesticides, ie. Raid yard guard or similar products are not allowed on our property. You can spray your skin, clothing and personal property with mosquito repellent in your designated camping area. Thank you for your commitment to conserving the natural ecosystem.
We would like to note that our farm is host to nine apiaries and chickens. The hives are a good distance away from the campsites so guests are safe. We sell honey and organic eggs (based on availability). The honey is a real treat - the spring harvest is a lovely delicate, floral flavor from feed on the blueberry blossoms. In the the summer months they feed on black locust and clover, creating a wildly rich and delicious honey! We also offer seasonal vegetables from our gardens, depending on whats sprouting up. Please ask upon arrival if you are interested in any of these fresh goodies.
Please advise that we are a upick blueberry farm, open to the public during the month of July on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, from 9am-3pm. Families come to pick berries and enjoy the overall farm experience. While the path to some of the blueberry patches is the same path to the campgrounds, the campground itself is your private space during your stay. Upick guests are not allowed to walk across the campgrounds. If you book your stay during the blueberry harvest season, we hope you will also enjoy the upick experience! We look forward to having you!

Great space to spread out and watch wildlife around the pond. They ask that you unload and repark at front of property, but otherwise a seamless experience
Mike's farm land is the perfect getaway for a weekend. It was a pleasure to be greeted by Maggie upon arrival. She walked us to the site and offered a cart to transport our goods (the ground was too soft from rain for our civic). My wife and I stayed at the canopy bliss site, which was well shaded during the day. We enjoyed listening the sounds of nature (frogs, beautiful sound birds, ducks, etc) while relaxing in our two hammocks. This truly was a wonderful experience for us. A huge plus was that the bathroom (porta-potty) was the cleanest I've ever used! The only downside was that there was no picnic table to put our stuff or sit at while outside. Not a big deal, but bring a small table like we did and you'll be fine.

My partner and I were looking for a last minute adventure on Memorial Day weekend and found this peaceful little gem of a site. There’s a lovely pond and lush green space and we were the only ones here. It was a nice spot for a campfire and lovely nature sounds that out is right to sleep. Would def recommend for an off the beaten path chill site.
Such a super cool couple with an awesome property! The lake was very picturesque and the hospitality was much appreciated.
Camped for one night in April. Beautiful spot with a pond, close to Lake Wampum which was a very nice park we checked out as well. Super nice hosts and beautiful property! You don't drive right up to the site so be prepared for that, but it was a short distance to walk and they let us borrow a wagon to haul things. Great place, easy drive down from Chicago, would recommend!
Very Friendly! nice secluded space to camp, yet there are some retail places not far if you need something. get some firewood and have a fire!
Mike's camping spot was beautiful! We loved our stay and can't wait to go back. Mike and Gosia were wonderful hosts!
