A stay at Willowthorne offers a unique getaway experience with fresh air and natural beauty where the sunsets are gorgeous and the stars light up the sky! Our farm is host to nine acres of agricultural space that combines organic farming practices, education and hospitality.
We offer tent camping for small groups and retreats. Our campgrounds overlook the pond and willow trees. We also allow space for small RVs or Campers (no power hook-up available at this time).
Our area offers an incredible variety of recreational and sightseeing activities. Find peace and tranquility among nature, or travel just 25 miles north to visit the heart of Chicago! We are central to many Illinois, Indiana and Michigan State Parks and beaches. Many good restaurants and breweries are also nearby. There is much to see and do around our quiet little corner.
We would like to note that our farm is host to nine apiaries and chickens. The hives are a good distance away from the campsites so guests are safe. We sell honey and organic eggs (based on availability). The honey is a real treat - the spring harvest is a lovely delicate, floral flavor from feed on the blueberry blossoms. In the the summer months they feed on black locust and clover, creating a wildly rich and delicious honey! We also offer seasonal vegetables from our gardens, depending on whats sprouting up. Please ask upon arrival if you are interested in any of these fresh goodies.
We are an organic farm with bees and native pollinating insects. Broadcast pesticides, ie. Raid yard guard or similar products are not allowed on our property. You can spray your skin, clothing and personal property with mosquito repellent in your designated camping area. Thank you for your commitment to conserving the natural ecosystem.
Please advise that we are a upick blueberry farm, open to the public during the month of July on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, from 9am-3pm. Families come to pick berries and enjoy the overall farm experience. While the path to some of the blueberry patches is the same path to the campgrounds, the campground itself is your private space during your stay. Upick guests are not allowed to walk across the campgrounds. If you book your stay during the blueberry harvest season, we hope you will also enjoy the upick experience! We look forward to having you!

An enchanted little Eden. Our stay was exactly what we needed. Lovely hosts, a tranquil setting reminiscent of Monet’s Giverny and the sounds of birds & frogs. Purchased some delicious honey for the road. We’ll definitely stay here again if we are ever back this way…

We had an amazing time camping at Willowthorne! It was a very nice plot of land and features a lot of pretty scenery. Mike was a great host and was able to fulfill any questions or needs we had. I also would highly recommend buying some honey as it is all organic and was very tasty. All in all, our time spent here was well worth it and we will definitely go back to Willowthorne.
Mike has quite the hidden gem. It is a beautiful place, and he was a great host.

Really great hosts and a beautiful property! Took home some eggs and honey! Would definitely stay again for a getaway out of the city.
These hosts are so generous and genuinely awesome people. The farm honey, beautiful property! Recommend!
Willowthorne is a lovely spot to camp. Mike met me upon arrival and showed me the site, the vegetable garden (veg was up for grabs), described a couple of walking paths, and even invited me to join his family for dinner. The site is far enough back from the house to feel private without being a trek to reach. You can also drive right up to the site.
At the site, there is a table (no chairs or benches), a fire ring and level ground to pitch your tent. Just a few step away is a porta-potty. The pond is right next to the site and had ducks swimming and lots of frogs around. There is a bit of road noise, but it is mostly drowned out by the frogs and crickets and such.
All around it’s a great site with friendly a host and gorgeous scenery. What’s not to love?!
A lovely place to camp! We were the only ones there, (though I am not sure there are other spots to camp on the farm). It was super private and serene with a nice pond and lawn and trees all around.
Mike was a great host.
Thank you!
Very pretty with super helpful and friendly hosts.
We had a great time and the property is very pretty. The hosts were so accomodating and nice.
