Lovely private riverfront
This spot was really lovely if you're looking for a naturey, spacious, secluded off grid spot thats not too far from Matthiessen and Starved Rock state parts. It's your own private river front complete with a huge carport shelter for your fire, that would easily fit a small tent underneath (we slept in the van). Only things to mention would be it's easy to get your car stuck in the sand if you go too far in (we did, had an okay time getting out on our own) and you can see some cars and face some trailers on a far road. Still pretty dang private. Matt was super nice and went above and beyond to make sure we got in alright and had everything we needed. He even reccomended the near by general store, town, and hiking spots. We will be back! Thanks Matt. :)
Peaceful and private getaway!
Matt’s property was gorgeous! Super secluded with plenty of beach and forest to explore around the campsite. The property is between two rivers so you have a beach to yourself on one and across the other a public trail. There’s a town nearby if you need anything and starved rock is only ~40 minutes away for a day of hiking. Matt was super responsive and helpful! Like the other reviewer said be careful with your car on the sand but stay on the gravel and you’ll be fine.
Me and my friends are already planning on another trip to Camp Hennepin when we get the chance!
Highly recommend. Beautiful private location on a beach. Girlfriend and I had a great time and exactly what we where looking for. Matt was a great host welcomed us when we arrived. Really appricated the firewood and amenities provided.
Escape like it’s another state!
Serene, beautiful, natural site nestled on land between the Hennepin canal pkwy trail and a creek. Excellent gravel space for parking our tow vehicle and 19’ camper, as well as a 26’ motorhome. Very dog friendly. A few freight trains didn’t even bother the bald eagles we saw several times. Lots of hawks and other birds to watch. Easy access to the creek from a stone path then beach at the other end of the property. Matt and Christa were fantastic hosts. We enjoyed every minute of the four days boondocking here and cannot wait to visit again!
