Camp under mature oak trees in a property bordered by native wetlands and woods. Escape the city lights. The magic of fireflies/ lightening bugs twinkling over the prairie grass in the undisturbed wetlands will amaze you. You might share 6 acres with other campers. There are many local activities in the area. Please google McHenry County Visitors Center for a current resource of festivals, expos, hiking, restaurants and more. At sunrise a mist usually lies over the wetland in the early hours of the warm seasons. The fall is also fantastic when you walk through the rustling leaves and take in the orange leaves on the hickory trees or the red leaves on the maples. Regardless of the season wildlife can best be viewed at sunrise or sunset if you are very quiet to avoid scaring them back into the woods. We often have extra deadwood to make a campfire with. Enjoy a walk around 6-acre property.
The property is in an unincorporated area. We have bird's eye photos included in our listing. Guests have some choice in where they set up. Although we allow fires, we cannot promise private ones. We do usually provide very rough firewood from trees that are already down, however you will need to cut it to size. On busy nights, like Saturday, fires may need to be shared. Campers are welcome to harvest hickory nuts or apples when they are in season on the trees. Many campers appreciate the access to town only 2 miles away.
On rare events there could be an unexpected celebration in the distance. We will do our best to accommodate guests if this occurs.
When you book with us you agree to pay an additional $20 if you arrive after 10 pm to check in or if you wish to check in early. This does not include no shows or cancellations. If the ground is very wet, you may be required to walk to your site from the driveway.
During the busy summer months, we will provide an outdoor camp toilet.
Guests can choose to check out late for an added fee of $25.00 per hour. Please view the extras to purchase this item. The owners reserve the right to add this charge on a reservation if a guest checks out late.

Dave was super helpful and friendly. The property is beautiful and perfect for tent camping. Thanks again!
Great place to stay the night! Will definitely return if in the area. Amazing host, we got stuck in the mud and he did everything he could to try and get us out.
Very nice, open area with a few trees. It's behind their house and B&B (which can be convenient in many ways.... Their delicious hot breakfast menu items being being number 1!). I was solo hammocking so only needed 2 trees and a fire pit and I was not disappointed. There was a picnic table at the site and a very clean Porta Potty not far away. The resident ducks and chickens were a delight and I loved going to the coop area...was even given some lettuce to feed them. Saw a buck crossing the neighbors field on the 2nd night.

Wonderful spot!
Found a great flat spot, lots of cut your own firewood to be had.
Bring a saw!
I bought a mix of duck and chicken eggs from the owner....and he even brought me down a warm blueberry muffin in the morning!
David is an extraordinarily gracious host. The grounds were absolutely beautiful. Cant remember the last time I met someone so kind and seen such natural beauty. Extremely quite except I did hear a few clucks and quacks when I first arrived which was past their bedtime but they were silent in short order. I also believe I heard a small fox calling for its mom for a while. I know the moms leave them behind in a safe place while they go out looking for food. I know it was NOT a coyote. It was a very sweet sound and comforting to know I wasn't the only one alone that night. I'm 67 and trying some new adventures. My first stop at Davids was rewarding beyond what I could have ever expected.

We stayed here for camping and had an amazing time. The property is beautiful and there is a ton of space to run around and explore. There were about 3-4 sites to choose from and a place to start a fire. They offered us free firewood from their trees and it worked great in starting a fire. They had a portapotty that was clean and near by. They also had picnic tables at each camp site which made it super easy to cook by the fire. The host was so kind and gave us some paper to start a fire on a chilly morning. They showed us their ducks and chickens and roosters. They also just hatched baby chicks and they let us hold them. We paid for breakfast which was $10/ per person, and it was amazing. Definitely a ton of food. The blueberry muffins were great as well. The campsite has 3-4 campsite which means that you could encounter others but we were the only ones out there. Overall, we had a blast and the hosts were amazing.
What a beautiful place to camp. It's quite spacious, and the hosts ensure you're never low on fire wood. Also, order the blueberry muffins; you will not be disappointed. When it warms up a bit, we'll surely be back!
