I took my school-aged boys back to Matt's land last weekend. We were able to stay on his "beach" by the bend in the river. Such a great place for the boys to wander around and explore. The pavilion is really great because it gave us an opportunity to get out of the sun. Rolling down one of the canvas sides to the pavilion was great too in that it kept down the gusty winds that day and allowed us to play a board game without the pieces flying away. We have a small home-built teardrop camper. We had no problem turning it around and placing it where we wanted to put it - but anything bigger would have been tricky. The gravel is several inches deep back there so we needed to position the camper with our car. No unhitching and moving it by hand as I can do on harder ground.
Once again Matt was great. We were able to meet him in person this time. He's very welcoming and helpful. Will definitely return in the future.

Perfect for a weekend camping trip. Matt and his wife are an awesome easy going couple and have done an awesome job with the property. My party and I stayed at the covered canopy area with the huge beach area and loved it. We definitely plan on coming back again when it’s warmer so we can enjoy swimming in the stream. If you love looking at the stars at night, this is an awesome spot if you catch a clear night like we were fortunate to have. The canoe ride was great and easy to paddle upstream on the canal starting from Lock 7 to get to the next where you just turn around and slowly float back down. Beautiful time of year and well worth it. Walking along the canal for a little hike was cool too. If you got young kids like me and my family do, this is perfect. THANKS MATT!

What a gem this place is! Secluded, river front camping with miles of trails and lots of wildlife. We were there on a Sunday/Monday and had the entire place to ourselves. Matt is a gracious host and really wants his guests to enjoy themselves. We will definitely be going back!

Thanks Darla! Hope to see you guys again and hope you get your camper worked out!
A favorite for our dogs and us! Cute town nearby, amazing scenery, miles of the canal path immediately accessible. The hosts are easy down-to-earth people, which simply adds to the experience. Lots of quiet. Open space for the dogs to explore. Pretty great rain or shine!

Very beautiful place, and hosts are very helpful and friendly. Plenty of space for travel trailers or RVs, and very cool beach area for tent camping.
Matt has a great spot here, & he's very helpful, & responsive. My husband Kevin & I absolutely love Camp Hennepin. Our favorite spot is by the beach the shelter offers a great spot to set up cooking facilities. There are porta potties that are well maintained on-site. We do bring a camp toilet so we don't have to drive over to them from the beach. There's a charcoal grill that's available to use provided you bring your own charcoal. We set up our tent with a view of the stream, and enjoy listing to the crickets and other wildlife at night. I love fishing the Hennepin canal. The sites are very relaxing, just the thing one needs to get away from the daily grind and a great way to destress and take your mind off Covid. We've camped here twice now and are planning another trip or two soon. It's remote enough to be away from others while close enough to civilization if any supplies are needed. We did filter water from the stream for cleaning and showering and in our camp toilet. We bring a water jug with water for drinking and cooking with.

Thanks Kevin and Stacey! This is one of the best reviews we have ever gotten! Thanks so much and we love how much you guys love the place. It really is remarkable!
The campsite was excellent! We camped on the beach along the river and the sounds of it flowing at night was wonderful. Matt was incredibly helpful at getting us to camp, delivering the wood we added with our hipcamp booking and giving us tips to get the canoes into the canal. Would definitely go back!!

Thanks for staying with us Ashley! That weekend was alot of fun! I loved seeing you buys get the campfire rolling first thing in the morning. Was beautiful from our site seeing the smoke roll up into the fog. You guys left an immaculate site, thanks for that and hope to see you again!
Camp Hennepin is fantastic! Clean & serene, peaceful & tranquil. With the Hennepin Canal running along one side of the property, and a small river running along the other side, this is the perfect escape to nature.
With access to both waters directly from the campground, you can hike or bike along the canal path, canoe/kayak in the canal, or wade in the river.
Ice, refreshments, etc is just a few minutes drive away in the beautiful and friendly little town of Tiskilwa.
Host Matt is friendly and professional, and maintains the cleanest port-a-potties I’ve ever seen!

you guys were great guests and we are looking forward to doing it again soon!
