I arrived later in the evening after dark and left early morning so I can't provide an in depth review, but I'll share my experience. Though I didn't meet the host, Raven was fairly quick to respond to my questions and the Instant Book was convenient for last minute reservation. Clear directions were provided as to the location and campsite spots were well marked. (It would have been helpful to include the WiFi info/PW with that welcome information.) The host was available to answer questions via text, if needed, when I arrived.
When car camping, one can anticipate basically being in a rocky, dirt parking lot parked fairly close to others, depending on what site you're given. Don't plan on a car campsite with a picnic table and lots of room to put out chairs and whatnot (unless I missed that in the dark!). Spot #5 was under a mango tree and provided some bit of shelter from the pouring rain, though my feet definitely got dirty in the muddy puddles. (What can one expect when staying there the night before the general area had evacuations for flash flooding though? haha) There weren't a ton of bright lights which is good for sleeping, but pack a headlamp or flashlight to get around the side of the house to the shower, bathroom, and kitchen.
This small parking lot is tucked just off the main road of Haleiwa in the middle of some great local restaurants and shops. I was able to easily walk and pick up dinner at the food truck 50 feet away. For reference, Matsumoto Shave Ice was just up the street walking distance and the Banzai Pipeline was all of a 15 minute drive down the road. Great place to stay for surfers or use as a basecamp for those exploring the North Shore.
The outdoor bathroom was very clean and had ample room to change clothes (though no sink to wash hands, brush your teeth, etc. just hand sanitizer. Whether people actually did this or not, I did appreciate the sign that asked people to put the sanitizer on TP and wipe down the seat in between use). The hot outdoor shower was marvelous with a huge shower head and there were individual baskets for people at each tent/car site to put their shampoo/conditioner. It would have been nice to have a hook or spot to put down one's clothes that wouldn't get drenched by the awesome shower. (I put my clothes in a trash bag to keep dry.) I didn't utilize the kitchen but looked like a nice set up overall. I didn't see the tent sites out back, so can't provide comment there.
If you're looking for an affordable place on the North Shore where you can explore the area and beaches, have a nice hot shower, and easy access to what the area has to offer -- I'd recommend it. I was grateful to come across this site instead of staying at the nearby state campground where the gates were locked between 6:45p-7am. Though I had limited interaction with the other people onsite, I felt safe as a solo, female traveler and it was only a 45 minute drive to the airport. Wish I could have stayed longer, but it worked perfectly for me to have a place to sleep and take off to the airport in the morning.
Hidden gem of hale'iwa
We stayed in a camper van at this spot with original plans to move on after a few days and ended up extending our stay through the whole week! Great location, great accommodations, great people. Bathroom was well kept, outdoor shower has wonderful water pressure, power outlets available in the public tents, refrigerator available to keep your food/drink, the list goes on and on. Raven has created something wonderful here and i almost hesitated to post a review because i wanted to keep this place a secret! Will definitely be back again
The location is close to tons of north shore gems! It is close to wetlands so if you have issues with misquitos I would not reccommend. I barely left my camper van cuz it was so bad and still had over 40 bites! The people there are AMAZING. They have a communal fire and all seem to get along well.
Overall a good stay and would consider staying here again. It seemed pretty expensive for what it was, just a parking spot in the front driveway. It wasn't clear to me that the property was in such a central location which can be a good thing since you can walk just a short distance to many of the restaurants (checkout the Tapas place, it was great!) but on the flipside you're very near the main road. The other turnoff was the the mens toilet is a portapotty while the womens is a proper flush toilet however it was a clean portapotty. In reflection, we were looking for a more rural experience which this is not but the shower and toilets were nice, just maybe a bit pricey for what it was.
