Please note: the unpaved road into the tiny subdivision of Hawaiian Island Paradise Acres is 1/4 mile long and is “rough”, also there are junk cars littering the road in a couple of spots. This is a “local” neighborhood not a five star resort. I’ve lived here since 2005 and I’ve had absolutely no problems. My property is fully fenced with a locked front gate, I feel very secure and comfortable living here. It does rain almost everyday, but that’s part of the joy of living in a rainforest.

A bit too far off the a very beaten trail for our family of four - not what we expected but provided refuge from the rain. Theophania was very welcoming and gracious letting us stay under cover of her carport tent because it was so wet! The bathroom is shared inside her home and the site offers little privacy from host though she was very easy going and kind. The property is moderately cared for and uniquely tidied. Neighborhood leaves a little to be desired with barking dogs at night and refuse lining the roads. I wouldn’t feel safe walking the roads in the area. Deadheads and burners will find a friend in Theophania.

The 1/4 mile road is dirt and rough and unfortunately strewn with vehicles that someone in the neighborhood is dismantling and illegally dumping there to be picked up by the city eventually. This is a small/tiny subdivision full of local people making a life in the rainforest. There is no need to fear my neighbors as I’ve been here 16 years without any incidents. My house has a master bedroom with its own bathroom and that’s where I live. The front room was vacant and the bathroom was completely private for your family’s use, I’m very sorry that we had that misunderstanding. It was a pleasure hosting your family and I hope you’re got to see some fantastic sights during your visit.

This spot is not for everyone, but if you just want a spot to sent up tent or you're traveling alone and want a single bed for the night it's not bad! It is a nice location near Hilo and while I was here I explored Rainbow Falls and hiked to the lava! Theo is a wonderful host and will tell you all you want to know about the island so be sure to ask her questions!

Tent spot in the front yard.Checking out the property.Front room available with twin bed and your own bathroom!Tub in master bath!
