Loved bamboo grove cabin so much that we stayed here twice during our trip! The most beautiful plants and sounds and art--I couldn't have asked for a nicer hipcamp experience.
WOW this is a magical place. From the thriving lush gardens to the enchanting soundscape of birds and bugs and animals to the warmth of the people we met there, this is definitely a place I would recommend and love to return to (and I already plan to!!)
I have traveled to several Hipcamps all over the Big Island, and Gingerhill Farm Retreat is hands down my FAVORITE Hipcamp on the Big Island so far.
When I arrived, for some reason it immediately felt like home. A beautiful farm overlooking the ocean, with massive fruit trees, monstera leaves, multiple structures scattered around the land, and a yoga shala. The owner, Mayumi Oda, made me tea and breakfast, and we discussed Ayurvedic healing. She then told me she was an artist (a very famous artist!!). She took me to her studio and she showed me her art: massive paintings of Hanuman, buddhas, and other yogic goddesses. I was in awe! I even purchased one of her pieces of art for my new home. What a special, magical, and spiritual place.
The hosts (Mayumi's son) Zach and his wife Iris are also wonderful, genuine souls. They were extremely welcoming and even invited me for a yummy healthy lunch the day I was leaving. There are some other people working and living on the farm, all of whom were great, friendly, and enjoyable to eat lunch with.
Some highlights of the place include:
-The Bamboo Grove Cabin was very secluded, clean, and such a cool experience to sleep in the middle of all of the trees
-Very close to the Kailua-Kona airport
-Fresh fruit and veggies growing all over the property, and there's a table of fruit that you can eat from
-Baby pigs!
-Friendly hosts
-Ocean views
-A few minutes away from the coffee tours, Kaya's cafe, and other cool vintage shops in town
-Really feels like a retreat
I'll be back! Thanks to all of my lovely hosts at Gingerhill Farm Retreat :)
