This spot is conveniently located right above Hilo town (walkable) which is nice. The stream is what drew me here and it was beautiful to hang out and dip in as it was hot there! The only one place I felt good was in my tent. Since I was close to the water that drowned out any street noise and I ended up sleeping really well (grateful for this tent location thank you!) I do have some mixed feelings about this listing after seeing the good reviews and then having my experience. The first thing is that I didn’t get that this camping place would be right next to a trafficked road (Wainaku street). I wouldn’t consider this a great “hangout” space as with the black mats it gets really hot during the day and the common spaces are not as inviting as I’d have hoped. As a woman I did feel a little unsafe here being next to the street with by passers who could just walk on property easy, also with two strange males in the house overlooking the property (especially when Annie and all guests were away and it was just me on site), and that there are long term renters here too just gives it a different vibe. Porta-potties we’re gross (also no toilet paper), kitchen was super basic missing things like dish soap, scissors, and a workable lighter. Shower head was broken and I spent some minutes trying to figure out where to hang it. Annie is nice and really trying, I just don’t see the value matching my experience. Hope this feedback helps to make it better!

This property is so beautifully landscaped and peaceful. We camped right next to the river and had our own little yoga platform. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back again!

Beautiful setting: in a forested valley amid a terraced garden over a large stream, 1/2 mile from downtown Hilo in a quiet area. Very kind and thoughtful staff take time to welcome, help, and get to know visitors. Owners dedicated to constant improvements, and nice touches throughout the shared spaces.

Place was honestly amazing. Super close to down town Hilo but still the feel of the jungle. You could hear the Koki frogs sing all night while the river trickles down. Was peaceful and amazing. There’s a nice natural pool to swim in that is refreshing in the morning. 10 out of 10 would do again
