You feel miles away but you are only minutes from fast food restaurants, Walmart and mom & pop shops and restaurants. Small-town charm still lives in Fitzgerald, GA – a quirky town with wild chickens. The tree lined streets of the historic district feature median parks and beautiful homes of the early 1900’s. On Main Street, string lights illuminate the downtown and the neon lights of the historic Art Deco Grand Theatre are aglow! There you can enjoy first-run digital movies year-round, in addition to music concerts and live theater. The parks in front of the theatre on Main Street are the location for events throughout the year. You can further immerse yourself in art at the beautifully restored Carnegie Center, where you can view exhibits or create your own works of art. The historic district is filled with eclectic architectural styles, materials, and ornamentation not seen elsewhere thanks to its diverse settlers. Locally owned shops will treat you to southern hospitality and eateries will delight you with delicious regional and international cuisine. Walk the town’s brick streets as you shop and sightsee, enjoy the murals or embark on an architectural tour. You are likely to see wild chickens along the way. Visit the website to find out why chickens are running wild in Fitzgerald and why world-renowned living-sculpture artist, Topiary Joe, is in the process of building the world’s largest chicken topiary there. Check out our community calendar to see what event might be happening during your visit. Get outside and explore: bike, kayak, boat, fish, camp, bird watch.

When I arrived the first thing I noticed was the trash all over the field and all the trash cans were overflowing. Picked up what I could in my area. The campground is a huge open field there's absolutely no privacy whatsoever. The tent camping area is right next to a busy road. The noise from cars passing by took away from the peacefulness of the area. If you're on the RV side it may be quieter over there. Around 7pm, a random man pulls in the camp area and stops right next to me then starts circling me very slowly and watching me... he's so close that I can reach out and touch his car if I wanted to. As a solo female camper this made me very uncomfortable. It was hard to relax after that. I ended up leaving a day early.

This is a wonderful location to camp. We parked our truck and popped open our rooftop tent. We had a nice spot overlooking the creek. Easy check-in and great amenities. I highly recommend and would definitely go back.

Nice place to camp for the night. We got in late due to the drive and traffic. Host kept in contact with us which we super appreciated. Bathrooms were nice and able to put up for the night. The lake was pretty when we were able to see it in the morning... also listened to the train pass by at night (I know it’s silly, but we haven’t heard a train passing for a while) also little light house for the small airport near by kept the light spinning. Noticed a cop patrol at night made us feel a bit more safe (since we got in late and couldn’t really see the surroundings) overall a good stay! Thank you again!
