At 180 acres Glendale Farm in Chimacum, in operation since 1857, is one of the largest single agricultural properties remaining in Jefferson County. The farm includes prime agricultural soils, over half a mile of East Chimacum Creek, and forested areas. The easement protects a buffer zone for salmon and wildlife habitat along the east fork of Chimacum Creek and protects the agricultural and forestry values of the property forever. Jefferson Land Trust and collaborative partners purchased the easement to Insure Glendale farm maintains agricultural practices and wildlife habitat forever! Please be aware this is a working farm with poultry, livestock, and the use of farm equipment providing a great experience for farm life. Glendale Farm experienced a devastating loss in 2022 when the primary residence burned down. Since then, we have been engaged in a long-term restoration effort, including extensive cleanup from an extreme hoarding situation. Please wear sturdy shoes at all times, as we are still carefully removing glass and other sharp debris from parts of the property. You may encounter old farm equipment, a few derelict RVs, and other remnants of the site's history as we continue this work. We appreciate your patience as we gradually improve the farm with future showers, a communal kitchen, gathering spaces, and enhanced landscaping. Retreat to relax at Chuckanut Hills Farm and Campground, a 20-acre energy-regenerative, off-grid family farm nestled at the foot of Anderson Mountain and surrounded by thousands of acres of forest. 30 minutes south of Bellingham in the Chuckanut Mountains, the only finger of the Cascade Mountain Range that reaches all the way to the Salish Sea. This wooded forest is part of the Puget Lowland Forest Eco-Region. These hills were the native home of the Saquantch people, a Salish coast tribe that fished and hunted the mountains surrounding Lake Whatcom. They lived in long lodge homes and were later pushed out by the invading Lummi Tribe. The Lummi Tribe was later pushed out by Western logging companies, and the entire mountainous region was heavily logged for a number of years. Where our farm now rests was once the second of many logging camps built by Ed English, and he cut our gravel farm road in 1900; a railroad ran through the lower part of our property, taking logs from Lake Whatcom down to the little boom town of Seattle. Our intention while being caretakers of this ancestral land is to restore native plants, raise heirloom produce and heritage animals, and provide a restful nature paradise for people looking to spend time in the outdoors.

This is basic tent camping designed for people who want to unplug and experience nature, not a crowded campground filled with pavement and perfectly level pads. We created each campsite by working with the land instead of against it. Rather than clearing large areas or removing healthy trees, each site follows the natural topography of the forest. Because of that, every campsite is unique in its size, shape, and character. We’re also at the very beginning of an exciting journey. This property is a labor of love, and it’s constantly evolving. You’ll likely see us working on new projects during your stay as we continue to improve the land and add thoughtful amenities over time. Our dream is to eventually build treehouses, cabins, and other unique places to stay while preserving the natural beauty that makes this property so special. Everything worked exactly as promised: power, water, sewer, cable, and Wi-Fi, zero issues across three nights. Tracy was a great host — responsive, easy check-in. Left feeling like we'd found a gem. The host I communicated with was pleasant to talk to and accommodating to my needs. The resident bunnies were the highlight of the trip and also being on the water. It was relatively quiet and peaceful, too. I would definiteky stay here again if I plan to come to the area again.

This site was great! The bathrooms at the site were literally the cleanest bathrooms i’ve ever seen when it comes to camping, i would come back just for the bathrooms personally. The site it’s self is next to a busy street which honestly didn’t bother me or the people i was with. I definitely recommend checking this place out!

Weekend Trip to Nature Escape (on the River) 18+

My girlfriend and I stayed very late season, mid-september, after Labor Day. It still felt a little bit like a soft open, the entire site was not complete yet but I can see the potential behind the few rough corners. We stayed in site number one (I think) the one closest to the river Beach. The river Beach was very fun with in inflatable toys to play with although it was a bit too cold for us. Massive fire pit on the beach that we did not use because there was a burn ban on, but it looks like it could comfortably hold a large group of people around it. There were some trails to go explore that were really fun and simply walking the river bed was a treat. Although there is some sites with a bit more privacy, some of the sites seemed a little close together, so if the entire property is full, expect to get cozy with neighbors or, book a large enough party to occupy an entire section. The hosts were genuinely kind and welcoming. They greeted us at the gate and guided us in, giving us the pick of the litter for spots since we were the only people on site that weekend I, believe. Don't let the previous comment deter you about the property not being completed yet, it is still well worth it and make no mistake, you're going to want to book early for summer of 2027 because once word gets around, this place is going to be busy! I look forward to coming back next year to see the upgrades. Highly recommend!

My group and I had an AMAZING time staying here. We did stay late in the season (mid September) and woke up to the most peaceful morning filled with mist, morning dew, and a couple of bucks. Perfect with a nice warm cup of coffee sitting fireside. Angela and Matt were so gracious, friendly, and prompt. We are definitely looking forward to returning in the future.

The site is very well maintained and the views are gorgeous. Felt very private, perfect for my dog that gets nervous around other people. I highly recommend walking the trails to the ponds on the property where we saw so many wildflowers.

What an absolutely stellar experience. We were bikepacking so I really appreciated not feeling like I was paying extra for car/trailer amenities like a separate site per group, a big parking space, power, etc. while still having a really nice spot to disperse camp. And there was potable water nearby as well as shared picnic table. Check-in is an absolute breeze (grab an envelope from a bulletin board) and the property is easy to navigate with the included map and good signage. On top of all that, the family that owns the Lantern is lovely. I can't wait to visit again.

Tips for snagging a campsite

You can reserve all of the park’s 172 tent sites, 134 partial-hookup sites, and five hiker/biker sites online.
Deception Pass is a popular state park. Reservations should be made in advance, especially for summer weekends. All campsites can be reserved online, up to nine months in advance of the arrival date.
The Ben Ure Cabin on Ben Ure Island is accessible only by kayak or rowboat, and guests must bring their own water.

When to go

Deception Pass State Park is open year-round. In the Coastal Northwest’s relatively mild climate, there’s never a bad time to visit. Summers, especially on weekends and holidays, are very busy here. But come in the shoulder season—in the spring or early summer, before July 4—or early fall, after Memorial Day, and you’re more likely to find seclusion. Weekdays are generally a better bet, too.

Know before you go

You can rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards at the Bowman Bay concession stand from April through September.
Visitors will need to display a day-use or annual Discover Pass. The park has automated pay stations dispensing both, along with boat launch permits.
The park has 1.2 miles of ADA hiking trails, in addition to three miles of bike trails, six miles of horse trails, and 38 miles of hiking trails.
