Amy R.’s Land, Wisconsin

This land was owned by my boyfriends Grandfather. Jay was able to buy 10 acres of his grandfathers land after he passed and designed and built the house here, mostly by himself after work and on weekends. The pond was dug to create fill for the foundation of the house. One day after partially digging the pond they stopped for the day and left the excavator in the bottom of the hole to continue working the next day. When they came back they discovered the excavator was half covered in water. They hit a natural spring! That was not expected. The self filling pond was a nice surprise. The excavator was quickly pulled out and everything was okay.

Our goal is to start a CSA here and provide the local community with food. We are in the very beginning planning stages. We have planted 18 fruit trees so far and are planning on how to expand our personal garden. This year will be about experimenting with different heirloom seeds. One of our goals is also to plant a lot of pumpkins to give away to people who can't really afford to buy their children, or all of their children, individual pumpkins for Halloween, along with handing out recipes for yummy pumpkin dishes. We also are planning our pumpkin planting to be in a wheelchair accessible area for disabled children to be able to come and pick their own pumpkin. We have decided to plant in our landscaping in the front of our house, in lieu of flowers, so that it will be easily accessible either from the yard or along our concrete walk way. That's our story.
