Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home in nature — including real toilets, showers, and kitchen.
Welcome to this special space. Down, down, down to the end of a winding gravel road you will find quiet and beauty on forty wooded acres where a stream feeds the wildlife and your soul while a beautifully appointed yurt keeps you cozy and dry. Your place of retreat seems to be a world away, but is just ten minutes off the interstate, 90 minutes from both Washington, DC, and Baltimore. As you descend into this magical place, the first thing you may notice is the frenetic din of our busy world melting away, replaced with the sounds of nature -- birds, trees, water, crickets -- all singing to remind you of timeless truths you've misplaced in your travels. We've been preparing for your visit. Come and rest a while. Explore the woods. Create your art. You will find inspiration in the rustling leaves, but you won't find a neighbor anywhere in your line of sight. We are mapping out trails and special spots around the property for meditation and contemplation. When you're ready to explore beyond the property, a ten-minute drive will take you to historic Berkeley Springs, WV -- home of America's First Spa, where George Washington and many generations since have come to take in the healing properties of the mineral-infused springs. Here you will find locally curated art, a farmer's market, vegan and not-so-vegan dining options, funky shops, and lots of history. Six minutes north, you'll find Hancock, MD and the C and O rail trail that can take you all along the Potomac River for miles of easy riding or trekking. The yurt has a queen bed for two, a mini-kitchen, comfortable chairs, a dining room table and a mini-split for heating and air conditioning. Folks often reserve it as a retreat for anniversaries, birthdays, or just to get a break from the bustle. If you want to bring more than two people, we have two campsites you can use for four more people. You just pay $20 more per person. You'll have the whole property to yourselves (besides us -- we live here full time in the cabin). Your reservation includes the exclusive use of a beautiful fully appointed restroom, so you can enjoy a hot shower after a day of exploring. The restroom is down a short path from the yurt and about a one-minute walk from either campsite. More about that yurt. It's a 20-foot diameter yurt (314 square feet) on an elevated deck overlooking the valley and creek that offers more of a glamping experience -- complete with kitchenette, queen-sized futon bed, and an HVAC mini-split to keep you toasty or cool during your stay. We have shaped this space to be a place of healing and respite. Alison is a psychotherapist; Ross writes and performs music on the side. Our hope for this land is that it becomes a regular stop on your journey -- a place for rest and retreat with a healthy dose of nature. We offer special services for those who feel the need. Ross is a seasoned songwriter and can offer a songwriting workshop to help you refine your work or find your voice. We have invested time and resources to make this very special place available to you. Come share it with us!This magical space has been created for you. Lyca Mikhael of Pisgah Yurt Craft is a true genius and has lovingly designed and built this remarkable 20-foot diameter structure (that’s 314 square feet of living space). We have filled it with rugs and furniture that will make your stay more comfortable. The mini-split HVAC will keep you warm or cool you off. The yurt is insulated, but it’s still a tent with open venting, so the mini-split can’t maintain room temperature below about 25°F or above about 90°. Winter campers have found it sufficiently cozy, but not toasty. The kitchen includes a microwave, induction hot plate, toaster oven, and small refrigerator. The yurt sits atop a double-octagonal deck on a hill which overlooks the woods and creek. A stream runs under the deck during the rainy season. The newly constructed full bathroom includes a shower with a tankless water heater and is a short walk down a path from the yurt. You can add up to four additional people at $20 each to camp on the property at the two designated campsites. We are not currently offering the campsites alone. But your party, whatever size, will have exclusive access to the entire property, the yurt, the bathroom, and both campsites. The campsites are far enough from the yurt and each other for privacy, but close enough for easy access. The queen-size futon bed sleeps two. Blankets and quilt are provided. You must bring your own sheets, pillowcases, and towels OR you can add linen service for a one-time fee of $35. We will set up the bed before you arrive and will have clean towels waiting for you. Pets are not permitted in the yurt, but can stay at the campsites. The property and yurt are NOT baby proof!

Ross and Alison are incredibly kind, the yurt was perfect for our weekend trip, and the property is absolutely stunning. I highly recommend others to check out the area and spend time in Berkeley springs.

It’s a perfect yurt surrounded by mountains. We love the streams flowing from up the mountains making it calm & relaxing. Also, it’s raining when we stayed & it’s so nice hearing the rain & streams both days and nights. During the stay, we walked around the property inhaling the fresh air after the rain. It’s so good! Ross is so nice showing us the place & very well prepared with clear information about everything. We would definitely go back!

We had a peaceful, restorative stay at the beautifully furnished yurt at Ross and Alison's. We went at the end of December so temps were 30 deg overnight and around 45 during the day, but the heater kept the yurt nice and warm even overnight; the coolest it got was about 66deg on the far side of the tent in the early morning. The bed was very comfortable, toasty warm as well. I heard woodpeckers and saw other birds, and the porch overlooks the stream with great visibility for bird watching in the winter. The porch is also a great place to stargaze at night (and even inside the yurt, through the clear central dome!). They have put a lot of thought and care into the details and are very gracious hosts, I highly recommend giving the yurt a try!

Cozy "camping" in whimsical yurt!
Our trip to the yurt on Ross and Alison's property was magical! The yurt itself is so cozy and well done. Plenty of lights, all the essentials, a comfy bed, and beautiful finishes - what more could you ask for? The temperature dropped unexpectedly overnight during our stay and even with frost outside the windows, the HVAC in the yurt kept us warm and toasty. We were perfectly comfortable and prepared, but I would definitely recommend checking the temperature and packing accordingly for your stay as, without the HVAC going at full blast for a while, the yurt is the same temperature as outside. The cozy stay was made even better with the beauty and stillness of the surrounding property. My boyfriend and I enjoyed walking, hiking, and just being in nature. We didn't end up building a fire and making s'mores as we planned but there are two cute fire pits we wish we made use of. The hosts were kind, informative, and responsive. I definitely recommend this as a romantic weekend stay and we can't wait to come back !
