The camp is secluded on 42 acres of woods and pasture land just outside Waynesboro, VA. The Upper South River is spring fed, and it runs diagonally through the property. Day lease fly fishing is also conducted on the property. Though urban, it is very private and the water is always cool. The campsite has a fire ring, cooking grates, rotisserie, picnic table and a trash can. It is primitive camping with no outhouse (yet). There are 5 campsites on the property, spaced apart nicely to keep it private. Orkney Springs Outfitters provides lessons and guide services onsite and on surrounding waters from this location. Hit the Tye River, South Fork of the Potomac, Cow Pasture and the Jackson River, to name a few. Excellent access to Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive, Blueridge Parkway.Ultra private, yet minutes from stores and restaurants in Waynesboro and Staunton. This campsite offers an open, flat terrain. There are several options for tent locations, and the RV sites are flat fields with no hookups. Each site comes with a fire ring, a picnic table, a cooking grate, and a trash can. The campsites are situated near the river, allowing for quick and easy access to the water. Fly fishing is available for an additional day use fee and is privately stocked water. Fly fishing lessons can be arranged at the river. The area is rich in wildlife and offers opportunities for hiking and fishing. If you're bringing your horses along, you can corral them near your campsite. Guests must be fully self contained with their own toilet/shower facilities and must take all waste with them on departure.

Upper South River Camp
Camping along the river.
We had a wonderful stay at David's camping property. It had just been mowed and was very easy to navigate. We got a spot close to an entrance for the river that we were able to walk to and had the best time fishing and caught a lot of fish! The amenities provided were a fire pit with a grill grate and rotisserie to use if needed. There was no toilet/bathroom so if you are prepared to go to the bathroom outside there shouldn't be any problems. We had a fun time, and would love to come again!

Room to Grow
So. First time using HipCamp. Not overly impressed. The listing makes you feel like you are gonna be right on the river. But you aren’t even close enough to hear it. And getting to the river wasn’t fun as the only part of the field that had been mowed was the campsite. Getting to the river meant walking through waist high weeds/grass. One of us got stung by a wasp from the wasp nest in the gate to the property. I reached out to the host before I arrived and while I was there and only heard from him on the last day after we had left. For $100/night it just could have been better The river is AMAZING. Chilly, refreshing, nice on a hot day!

Wonderful Stay!
The site is very private, but beautiful and spacious. A lovely running river right near the site that is nice to listen to. A warm welcome from Randy (camp host) was nice to arrive to after a long day on our bikes! But you have your own complete space to relax and enjoy. Absolutely would recommend and definitely will return if ever in the area again! 10/10
