Arcadia is the name we gave to our 83-acre mountainside retreat center for Earth-Based Spirituality. It’s nestled on the south-eastern slope of 4000-foot Mount Pleasant in Central Virginia, convenient to I81. (Note, there is a town called Arcadia off I81, but that is not us. Not to confuse.) We have a mountain creek with waterfalls, towering Beech and Sycamore trees, Witch Hazels leaning over the water, trout, crayfish, snakes, salamanders, and all the rest. We have about 2000 feet of the vertical mountainside with trails to explore. (But the stage and most of the camping is down closer to creek-level.) There are more sites higher up the mountain if you like more isolated camping. More of a trek to the bathrooms/showers/freshwater. We have one of the finest private stages on the East Coast with a top-notch sound system and a natural amphitheater which is like a single pie wedge of a Stadium that has regular live performances throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Our yurt is regularly booked as a unique glamping experience. There are chickens, ducks, turkeys, and guinea fowl free-roaming. Two dogs, nine cats, and several humans are blessed to call this home.

Snuggle up corner

Loved the location and all the scenery there for us to watch and listen to. Me and my son had the best time and will be back in the future! The fresh eggs with a surprise of duck eggs as well were so great to have for breakfast, I don’t know the last time my son ate so much! Thanks again to Fran for setting up such an awesome spot to share with us all!

Spring side - East Village

This place was absolutely incredible. Beautiful views, privacy, and lots of wildlife! Fran, the host, is wonderful and was willing to help out with whatever we needed! We also had some awesome visits from a couple of her sweet pets. Definitely recommend for a little getaway!!

Red yurt in beautiful setting

Sweet Serenity in Blue Ridge Mts

Fran's yurt was a little slice of luxury in the sweet isolation of the ancient Appalachians. It was so serene and relaxing to reconnect with nature and my partner here. I really enjoyed the trails throughout the property as well as the babbling brook complete with rope swing for getting in touch with your inner child. I highly recommend the yurt if you're searching for isolated peace and tranquility. It's also in a fairly central location to many of the main tourist attractions of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains.

Pond life - Upper

Upper Pond

Finley our host was super helpful and made us feel right at home. The ducks made for great entertainment and they even laid us an egg! We were very happy with the cleanliness of the bathrooms and showers and they had even had fresh towels and bath mats for our use. Overall a very relaxing stay enhanced by the sounds of the creek right behind our site. Highly recommend!

Snuggle up corner

I loved tent camping at Arcadia Sanctuary. Fran and Finley were both very kind, accommodating, and helpful. Their dogs are also very sweet (shoutout to buddy). It is a great location to do hikes in the national forest, and not far from Amherst. It is about 45 mins from Lexington.

Red yurt in beautiful setting

Arcadia sanctuary was more than just a yurt in a beautiful setting - it was a lovely experience of hospitality and care! Finley was incredibly welcoming and the thoughtful details made this a special and unique stay! The breakfast, fresh bread, and jam were all delicious! I will definitely be back to enjoy the swimming hole & property in warmer weather.
