Shaker Mountain Refuge sits on 300, mostly wooded acres at the foot of the Green Mountains. With outstanding views of Camel's Hump (Vermont's second tallest peak), the refuge is a wonderful place to sit back, relax and enjoy the natural world. There are numerous hiking trails on site, as well as a beautiful swimming pond. Access to Camels Hump hiking trails is a short drive away. Nearby, Camels Hump Nordic ski and bike center boasts incredible mountain biking and nordic ski trails. Just down the hill, the Huntington River has an abundance of swimming holes and fishing spots. Just over the Appalachian Gap are the Mad River Glen and Sugarbush ski resorts. There are many excellent restaurants within a 20 minute drive.

Coyote Lean-to
Superb space and host
This is a review for the Conifer Cabin. After the temperature dropped and a couple of feet of snow fell, Medora generously let us stay at the cabin instead of the lean-to. The cabin is simply wonderful. It is a serene space looking out over a small pond with Camel’s Hump in the distance. The cabin has large windows on each wall, letting you really feel the nature all around you. The main house (where you park and where Medora lives) is a short walk away and can barely be seen through the trees. You forget that it is even there. Medora is an attentive host, and the cabin was warm and cozy when we arrived. She also made sure we had water and firewood and anything else we needed to make the weekend special. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat while still being only a short drive to hiking trails and nice restaurants, this is the perfect place.

Coyote Lean-to
Beautiful space with amazing energy
I came to the Lean-to with two of my friends for my 25th Birthday, I had the most amazing time and Medora was such an incredible host. I loved the time I spent here, it had the most magical view of mountains with a pond and the sweetest space to sleep. The bathroom was also incredibly clean. We had a fire lit the entire weekend and Medora even put up a little happy birthday banner for me. She absolutely went above and beyond to make this birthday special for my friends and I. I appreciate this healing space and Medora for such a magical weekend! Cannot thank you or recommend this place enough.

Coyote Lean-to
Medora's lean-to was more amazing than words could describe. It was private, quiet, and clean. Fresh drinkable water and a porta-potty on site. Medora is an amazing host and made sure we had enough blankets and firewood. She even left a list of local restaurants, stores, and places to visit. I already miss waking up to that beautiful mountain view and cannot wait to visit again!
