Site 2 - Inviting campsites on Double Bayou
Beautiful Place!
We had a great time at Peter's campsite. The services are a little bit different than described (there is power, but I'd bring my own water) but the place is beautiful and the neighbours are fantastic, super friendly and helpful.
Wake up any morning to see the pond, ducks, herons, and horses nearby... right in front of your tent... is priceless. And you are a short distance from Double Bayou Park and Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge.
We'd definitely visit again.

Inviting campsites on Double Bayou
beautiful lake
Lovely lake with campfire area near barn with restroom. Children loved running around. Rained hard the previous day, but the manager knew a good higher place for us to camp out.

Inviting campsites on Double Bayou
Will not return
The site that we reserved flooded. Not their fault, of course, but instead of letting me know, before we drove down, they waited till we arrived to tell us that the new campsite was in the yard between a couple of mobile homes pitching a tent in someone’s yard is not camping to me. It was not the getaway we were looking for and the porch lights and the middle of the night traffic on the access road interrupted our sleep. Instead of feeling one with nature, we felt like we were crashing in the yard of some unkempt trailers. The potholes on the access road require a great deal of care and maneuvering. Since the next site over, which was also near a rental property home had nothing but structures and no trees between us. The sounds of squealing children carried pretty far. There is a disconnect in communication between Peter and the neighbor who manages the Airbnb and Hipcamp.‘s. And Peterson‘s text messages at 1:06 in the morning. Based on some strange things we saw, and all the trash in the yard I wonder if Peter owns the property and has the right to rent it out. It seems kind of abandoned and trashy. We prefer to leave our sites better than we found them so we picked up trash around the fire ring, but we did not want to waste our day cleaning someone else’s yard.
