Craigie Knowe Vineyard is a working vineyard and cellar door, set on 20 hectares, with 5 hectares under vine. It is the oldest vineyard on the beautiful East Coast of Tasmania. The homestead was built in 1836 and is one of the most photographed houses in Tasmania The cellar door is open 11-4, and offers chocolate and wine pairings, and normal tastings. We also have a restaurant on site open from 11:30 - 3:00 daily during summer. It is a beautiful vineyard with plenty of outside seating. There are also 5 other cellar doors within 10 minutes of the property, so it's a great basecamp for wine lovers! We offer a Big Breakfast Thursday through to Monday. Needs to be booked on arrival. We have plenty of level ground, ideal for pulling up for a night or several. Please note, all campers must be self-contained, with their own toilet, and we kindly ask you take all waste with you. Both towns have IGA supermarkets, bottle shops and restaurants, and plenty of history. Paradise Lagoon

6 sites · RVs60 acres · Coles Bay, TAS
Welcome to Paradise Lagoon! Here you can stay 30 metres back from the foreshore of Pelican Bay. Unfortunately you cannot see the beautiful bay view from the campsite. You can simply walk 30 metres and take your chairs and esky and spend the day marveling at the views and bird life, or even grab the kayak and paddleboard for some healthy fun . Pelican Bay is a saltwater tidal lagoon, it's very shallow water for a long way, then gets deep a fair way out. The water is too shallow for Boats , but there is a boat ramp nearby. Wineglass Bay is just up the road in Freycinet National Park.We only welcome guests over the age of 50 who have a fully self-contained vehicle. There are no amenities as yet so you must BYO everything you need and leave no footprint. Thank you.

The best camping near Freycinet National Park guide

Overview

About

Boasting some of Tasmania’s most idyllic coastal wilderness, Freycinet National Park is one of the island’s most visited parks. Wineglass Bay is the headline act, with its white-sand beach and crystalline waters, but you can also hike the rugged sea cliffs and granite mountains, snorkel and surf at sandy beaches, or paddle between rocky coves in a sea kayak. Campers will be in their element at the park, whether you want to park your motorhome at a beachside campground, pitch a tent in the sand dunes, or backpack to a secluded beach campsite.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for hikers: Freycinet overnight walker campsites provide free tent-only sites with composting toilets at Wineglass Bay, Hazards, and Cooks beaches.
  • Best for RVs: Richardsons Beach Campground has powered and unpowered sites by the beach and in the sand dunes.
  • Best for beach camping: Friendly Beaches campground has basic tent and RV sites with pit toilets, right on the beach.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Walk-in and Friendly Beaches campsites are available on a first-in, first-served basis only, and there is no camping fee.
  2. Campsites at Richardsons Beach, Honeymoon Bay, and Ranger Creek can be booked through the Visitor Centre. Sites fill up quickly, so book at least one month in advance or three months for weekend bookings.
  3. Richardsons Beach, Honeymoon Bay, and Ranger Creek campsites are allocated by ballot for the summer season (18 December – 10 February). The ballot takes place in early August—contact the Visitor Centre to enter.

When to go

Tasmania’s east coast enjoys some of the mildest and driest temperatures on the island, making it a good choice for hiking and camping year-round. Summertime brings the crowds, but it’s also the best time for swimming and water sports at the park’s beaches, while spring and autumn provide the ideal weather for exploring. Winter nights can be nippy, but this is also whale-watching season along the coast.

Know before you go
