A welcoming pitstop for hikers and RVers in the southern Flinders Ranges.
Located just off the A1 highway between Adelaide and Port Augusta, Crystal Brook makes a strategic stopover with plenty of options for campers. The first stop on arrival has to be the town’s Big Goanna statue—after all, where else can you snap a selfie with a gigantic lizard? After, you should swing by the bakery to try local specialty, Crystal Brook pasties. You can also use the town as a base during a southern Flinders Ranges camping trip. The 750-mile (1,200-kilometre) Heysen Trail passes through Crystal Brook, and there’s great hiking, mountain biking, and camping at nearby Mount Remarkable National Park too. Campers with self-contained caravans can make the most of Crystal Brook’s free camping area with toilets and BBQ areas. Alternatively, there’s a caravan park with powered sites and family-friendly amenities, simple bush campsites to park your campervan or pitch a tent along the trail, or quiet farm campgrounds.
