Family-friendly
Recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp is great for families and kids.
Our property is located on the site of the First Kilkivan Township and was home to a gold rush in 1868 where a 73 oz nugget was discovered. Guests will have access to a portable toilet and fire pit throughout their stay. Gold is still found in and around the creek with fossicking permitted at an extra daily rate of $25 per person. As this is private property we require that all the QLD Fossicking Act rules and regulations are followed this includes having your own permit which must be supplied before fossicking is permitted. These rules include no machinery or pump operated sluices such as high banking sluices. Detectors are welcome and some great finds have been found with them including gold and coins from the 1860’s. Large groups are welcome. There are many great shaded camping spots along the creek or a large open area of about 50 acres for larger groups. There is also a year round swimming hole fed by a solar bore on the property for anyone wanting to cool down. Kids under 12 are free but if fossicking must be covered by a permit. Pets are welcome. This place is fantastic. Neville is a lovely host. He came down after we arrived and introduced himself. Easy directions, clean and quiet! We'll be back for sure!

PEACEFUL AND QUIET
We spent the long weekend here. Nev the host is a great guy and there is no hurry to leave on the last day. There is no power and no water but there are a couple of ports loos to use. It’s very dry out that way so no green grass. The creek was very low and not usable for anything. There were cow pats a plenty as cattle roam freely throughout the camp site. If you have a dog who barks at everything that moves it’s not an ideal place. There are fire pits and you are free to use those or take your own. We bought wood at a reasonable price from the roadside very close to the camp ground. Kilkivan is a short drive away and is a quaint place to visit. We enjoyed the quietness and privacy. Hardly anyone else was there! We do feel the price is a bit high for a site with only a couple of portable toilets and nothing else. It’s off grid and you’ll need your own water.

Disappointed
Quite spot and we had a nice clear sky to look out the stars. However, the site is next to a cementery which I didn’t enjoy much, the creek was nearly dry, I understand the country is drought but the place didn’t look like the Hipcamp photos. I think the photos are misleading. I wouldn’t stay again. the king drive from Brisbane was definitely not worthy.
