No quiet what we expected
Interesting! When we arrived, the area was so overgrown, that we weren't sure if this was the right place. There was nobody else camping and no one at the house close by, so we decided to set up camp close to the road as we were hesitant to venture too far on the wet long grass. There is a car parking area close by for walkers on the popular bump track. Did a bit of birdwatching, which is why we came, but not a lot of birds. Always wanted to know what was up the Mowbray Valley, and now we know!

We enjoyed a lovely quiet stay at a great location, just outside of Port Douglas.
Interestingly, when booking, it is necessary to select a particular site and the instructions say to camp in the designated areas, however there are no signs for specific sites, it's just a large paddocked area - which is fine, but it is confusing and we had to check photos to make sure we were in the right area.
Perhaps signs need to be erected to show camp sites or change instructions to show book and choose your own area.

Peace and quiet, plenty of room
Nice views of surrounding mountains. Water available, no toilet or shower. A huge open well mown paddock with big shade trees on the north east side (the leaves did coat out awning after three days) . No sites marked, people just camp where they want which was fine when we were there as only three caravans. Plenty of space for lots more although only flat areas are close to the trees. We did the Bump track walk (straight across the road from the camp) up to the gate on Black Mountain road and also walked to Big Mowbray falls. Lovely walk, a few panels telling the history of the track as the only inland route to Hughenden until after WWII and the falls are spectacular. Suggest you use the app MAPS.ME to find the start of the falls turnoff as it’s not marked and was hard to find. All the other guests were lovely people in the true Hipcamp spirit.

Unfortunately we didn’t stay there at it was too wet. It’s a lovely place and would be amazing in the dry. Just check the weather before going. Otherwise the site is as specified.

Overall it was a very nice camp! There are no numbered sites, fire rings, or swimming holes. The site has an absolutely beautiful view!
