Barron River Getaway at Kuranda

4 sites · RVs, Tents50 acres · Kuranda, QLD
Surrounded by 40,000 acres of world heritage rainforest, 15 minutes outside the village of Kuranda, you will camp next to the mighty Barron River. This place is totally private and you have access to a sandy beach where swimming is safe and completely secluded. It's a great place for kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. There is a 360 degree view from the property, with nothing made by man in the way. When we purchased this property 37 years ago and built our unique home, it was denuded cattle land, and now we are surrounded by the most beautiful rainforest. We planted approximately 8000 trees.! We have 4 sites available all close to the river, and can provide water as well as access to our toilet. We are agile wallaby carers, with the rescued joeys being released back into the forest from here. After a day of kayaking or hiking or exploring the area we also offer a sunset massage (as available ) by a local masseuse who lives on the property. Watch the stars in the night sky at your own campfire.

The best camping near Green Island National Park guide

Overview

About

Embark on an adventure to Green Island National Park, a tropical jewel nestled on the Great Barrier Reef. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in activities like snorkelling amid vibrant coral gardens, exploring lush rainforest trails, and unwinding on sun-kissed beaches. Although overnight stays are not an option, the island's day-use area offers a scenic escape with all the allure of a remote island getaway.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Green Island National Park is between April and September, when the weather is cooler and less humid. These months offer the most comfortable conditions for exploring the island's natural beauty. However, be mindful of the summer months, as the presence of stinging jellyfish and tropical storms can make visits less pleasant.

Know before you go

  • Protect yourself from the sun with a hat and sunscreen, and consider wearing a full-body lycra suit for protection against stinging jellyfish.
  • Check weather conditions before your visit, as strong winds or cyclonic activity may affect access to the island.
  • Remember, no domestic animals are allowed on Green Island National Park.
  • Wheelchair-accessible boardwalks and tracks are available for an inclusive experience.
  • Be pest-free! Ensure your gear is free of soil, seeds, and insects to protect the island's ecosystem.
