Tips for Snagging a Campsite Reservation
- Camping must be booked in advance, and you will need to pay the full fee upfront to secure your reservation.
- Camping permits are required, and a tag with your booking number must be displayed on your tent at all times.
- Book at least six months in advance if visiting in peak season (May to September). There are just 15 sites available, and they can fill up fast, especially on weekends and public holidays.
When to Go
May through September is the dry season in Daintree National Park, with an average maximum temperature of 26°C. This is the most popular time to visit, so book tours in advance and get there early to beat the crowds. The weather can be extreme in the wet season (December through April), with temperatures soaring to more than 30°C, high humidity, and heavy showers most days. The Noah Beach camping area is also closed at this time.
Know Before You Go
- The Mossman Gorge section of the Daintree National Park is located 80km north of Cairns or about a 2-hour drive along the Captain Cook Highway. There’s no private vehicle access between 8am and 6pm—parking is available at the Mossman Gorge Visitor Centre, from where shuttles run into the park. The Cape Tribulation section is accessible via the Daintree ferry—some areas of this section are only reachable by 4WD.
- The Mossman Gorge Visitor Centre has restrooms, a café and gift shop, and wifi. Fuel and supplies can be purchased in Mossman or Rainforest Village. Bring plenty of drinking water, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
- Camping facilities at Daintree National Park are basic, so bring everything you need with you. There is a maximum vehicle height of 3.2 metres and maximum tent sizes at Noah Beach camping area, so check the guidelines before booking. There is a strict open-fire ban throughout the park.
- There is no mobile phone coverage within the Cape Tribulation section, and service is patchy in the Mossman Gorge section.
- There are accessible tracks and boardwalks in both sections of the park.
Daintree National Park
Two World Heritage landscapes meet at Daintree—the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics.
From lush lowland rainforest to the white-sand beaches and coral-fringed coast of the Great Barrier Reef, Daintree National Park covers a whopping 1,200 square kilometres. The two sections—Mossman Gorge and Cape Tribulation—are linked by a ferry ride across the Daintree River. Try a rainforest hike along the Mossman River, venture off-road in a 4WD, or immerse yourself in the traditional culture of the Ngadiku people on a Dreamtime walk. In Cape Tribulation, take in the views from the Mount Alexandra lookout, spot crocodiles on a Daintree River cruise, or go horseback riding along the beach. The Noah Beach camping area is the park’s only camping option, with tree-shaded gravel pitches for tents, camper trailers, and small campervans a short walk from rainforest trails and the beach.
