A small-town stopover between Queensland’s Wet Tropics rainforest and Great Barrier Reef.
With a population of fewer than 1,000, the small town of Belvedere is unlikely to make it onto your Far North Queensland itinerary, but it’s ideally situated for exploring the region’s natural wonders. Inland, the rainforest hiking trails of Wooroonooran National Park, the bird-filled wetlands of Japoon National Park, and the waterfalls and swimming holes of Tully Gorge National Park are all within a short drive. To the east, the Cassowary Coast is minutes away, where you can hop between beach towns like Mission Beach and Etty Bay, cruise out to the Great Barrier Reef islands, and spot Southern Cassowaries along the shore. There’s plenty of camping close to Belvedere, too, whether you park your motorhome at the rest stop just outside of town, snag a spot at a nearby Hipcamp, or check into one of the caravan parks, tourist parks, or RV campgrounds in neighbouring Innisfail.
