Amazing views
Hipcampers say this spot has amazing views.
Chris and Beth met and started dating in Indianapolis in 2009 where both were working on their graduate education. During their first date, Chris announced his goal of developing a vineyard and making wine. As the relationship evolved, Chris worked toward the goal by researching viticulture, attending classes and investigating potential vineyard sites. In summer of 2011, Chris and Beth got married and dove into the wine industry when they purchased a majestic 62 acre property in the foothills of the coastal mountain range in Yamhill County. The property had been an old timber farm that was in bad shape. In 2012, a portion of the property was cleared and planted and the adventure had just begun! The vineyard was planted in 2012, with additional blocks planted each year since. In 2015 they produced our first lots of Pinor Noir and Sauvignon Blanc and have since expanded the wine selection to offer hand-crafted lots of Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Dolcetto, Lagrein and more. These days, Chris manages the day to day operations of the farm and wine production while Beth manages the business. Are you ready to get away to a beautiful vineyard? On our property you will get to camp with awesome views of vineyard, coastal range, and nearly no ambient light at night! Our property is 10-15 minutes west of Carlton, Oregon, nestled in the foothills of the coastal range. We own 62 acres, 17 of which are planted as vineyard. On the property we have our house, a winery, and a tasting room. Be prepared to drive up 2 miles of gravel road with a short but steep hill. You will likely need good skills backing up to get into position. I have 2 spots for RVs and a variety of locations for tent camping.  Please let me know which you will do so that I can plan appropriately.  There are times when I can only fit 1 RV/Trailer, so please include that in your request. We are on a working farm and our camping spots can be in the way of the tractor.  As a result, staying more than 1 night, especially Fri/Sat is tricky. Weeknights are far more flexible because our tasting room is closed and our parking area is available.   Also note, as a working farm and we have crews here nearly everyday to work in the vineyard.  Please be respectful of the crew. Update as we approach harvest: Fall is harvest time in the vineyard!  With this we will be limiting our camping, specifically RVs and trailers.  Normally we can fit 2, but I will be limiting it down to just 1 and only for 1 night at a time.  Please reach out before booking if you are camping in an RV or trailer. Also, the birds become a problem for us in fall.  To help repel them from the vineyard, we use a bird noise maker.  It goes through a series of bird calls to scare them away from the grapes.  I mention it because it is loud in some spots around the property and it goes off regularly from dawn to dusk.  It is usually on for about 6 weeks before harvest. About the winery:  Chris James Cellars is a family owned and operated vineyard and winery that produces unique and interesting wines in Carlton, Oregon. The vineyard was planted in 2012, with additional blocks planted each year since. In 2015 we produced our first lots of Pinor Noir and Sauvignon Blanc and have since expanded our wine selection to offer hand-crafted lots of Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Dolcetto, Lagrein and more. The tasting room is open Friday through Sunday, 12pm-5pm and by appointment.  Please visit our website to schedule a tasting (chrisjamescellars dot com).

Gorgeous!
We had an incredible stay at the vineyard. It was great being able to buy some wine and explore the property while having a camping experience. The views and sunset were beautiful. I would absolutely recommend this spot to any one!

Vineyard by day, Stars at night!
Gorgeous views. Peaceful and plenty of covered space. Tucked in amongst the vines. The entry is a tad precarious, but manageable with a campervan or higher clearance vehicle.

Vineyard by day, Stars at night!
We really enjoyed our stay at the vineyard. We arrived just in time for wine tasting on the beautiful patio. Dustin was an incredible host! After settling into our spot, we enjoyed our evening of peace and quiet watching the sunset over the valley. The location is a terrific jumping off point for local gravel biking. Highly recommend!

Beth was great. We arrived on a day the tasting room was closed and she came down and sold us some wine. The stay was quiet and peaceful. And we were grateful for the break.

CAN NOT BE ALLERGIC TO BEES
I loved this site! I went to napa valley last summer with my parents and learned all about wine making. I loved being able to see the vineyard up close after hours. Beautiful views, private and peaceful. Now buyer beware- the field site for tent campers is bee haven. We cooked salmon burgers and had our dogs food out and within minutes we were swarmed with bees. This is not for people allergic to bees. They were everywhere by morning, in our car, in our trash, in our storage bins.
