A Simple Off Grid Experience.., Ohio

This was a piece of land that had set unnoticed for decades. Not good for farming and was in a landlocked situation. None of the surrounding property owners wanted it because it's just a wooded hill and was no real asset to them. I had a direction in mind and decided to take a gamble..

I was reading through a Mother Earth News magazine back in the early 70's and an article on these blue panel thingies that can be situated in sunlight to charge batteries forever changed my life! My mind took off in a dream of living off a battery and the madness began! I tinkered with batteries and low voltage gizmos all of my childhood and the discovery of these blue things (Solar Panels) was the catalyst of my life's destination. I was obsessed to have a home that ran off batteries!

My adventure started in 1989 on very frugal beginnings. I purchased the property and a very used 20' camper, found a spot to level it and proclaimed it as "Home". No well.. No spetic.. No grid power connection within a reasonable distance.. Not a whole lot of money.. I didn't care.. I had a dream and determination!

After decades of evolutions and creative thinking, I now have my cozy little shack in the woods that is my "lifetime experiment" and my dream come true. Old mine reclamation made the field area possible for me to spread the joy and provide a "Home Base" for folks to discover our areas history and other attractions and activities. And perhaps, learn a little on conservative off grid living while your at it.
