We love camping at Shakori Hills, I’ve been going there for festivals for over 16 years. The grounds are beautiful, it’s an old farm homestead. Be careful of ticks though. And it usually rains during festivals, but that keeps the dust down…yeah you right!

Shakori Hills Tent Camping
No posting for site. Had a male camper 10 ft away in middle of nowhere. Felt unsafe as a female solo tent camper. No marked off spots. 70 bucks and not a festival. Seemed like a rip off.

Shakori Hills is one of the most magical places on the precious Earth! So many beautiful spots to set up a tent or hammock. Hot showers and flushable toilets on the property, portajohns scattered throughout. Definitely look up at the stars if you're blessed with clear skies. Be weary of ticks and poison ivy, but plenty of forest & field to roam.

Happy Shakori everyone. We loved our stay at Shakori. The area we stayed was easily accessed and open for selecting a nice level area just in the shade. Our neighbors were friendly and fun loving. We were only 50 yards up the lane from the meadow where the main stage was for our night of amazing music. Fresh water was right outside the bathrooms. Our second visit to Shakori and first post COVID. Always a special event and there is nothing so magical as the vibe when you're on the property. Live on Shakori!!

No sleep due to neighbors generator

Shakori Hills Vehicle Camping
Nice, fairly level field close to toilets and drinking water.
Our problem was the closest camper to us left their generator running by ALL.NIGHT.LONG about 15’ from our tent. There needs to be set times when generators may run, and designated hours when they cannot. Or at least campers desiring generators shouldn’t be right next to tents. Will be much more selective about our neighbors from now on.

Shakori Hills Vehicle Camping
Love the venue! Love the camping arrangements. Fun to ease back into the festival atmosphere. Found the prices MUCH too expensive through HipCamp, though. Will definitely NOT do that again.

It was amazing to get back to camping for a live event. Even though this was the first weekend of camping in a long time Shakori Hills didn't miss a beat! they had it all organized clearly and while there were not that many people yet, it was an amazing time in an amazing space. plenty of room and easy access to the stage. Thank you for keeping the music playing!

Shakori Hills is nestled in the trees in rural North Carolina. While many activities are held here, this is principally used during the fall and spring Grassroots Festival featuring a huge variety of music. There are hot water showers and one set of regular toilets among the huge number of portapotties which are used during high-impact events (which are as clean as any portijohn I've ever used, really. They do a good job.) The woods are beautiful. The pond offers great frog hunting. The stars are actually visible at night with the low level of city lights. There are no pads and no marked camping sites: This camping is choose-your-own-adventure.
I've camped at Shakori over the last eight years. They mow the fields and keep the areas accessible. The people are almost universally friendly and there is music for almost any taste (though not much head-banging.)
Well water is available from two locations. I suggest bringing some of your own so you're not hauling water on your vacation. Outside of festival hours there is nothing to buy and no restaurants to visit. Come and enjoy the forest bathing in my favorite place to camp!
