Our family purchased this property in 1977. We were only the 3nd owners, we purchased it from the Ackerman family. . It was built and run by the Johannes family in the 1800's . The land was originally owned by the Seneca Indians. The chief in this area was named Chief Shongo. The road the property is located on is named after him. This was his territory Shongo Valley. Shongo Valley road was the foot trail to the Council meetings from Caneadea Council to Geneseo. It then became Shongo Valley Rd. The property has gone through much change. From being a reservation, to a farm pioneered by the Johannes family. The Johannes's were among the first German settlers in our area. They were among the first settlers to build the church just up the road. " The little German Church" which is once again active, has records pertaining to the church history. The farmhouse is still standing and is in the process of being renovated to being the camp store, bathhouse and rec room. More history of the property will be on display there.
