3 x 25 acre blocks were originally subdivided prior to the 1980's by the previous owners of Biara for each his 3 sons. He gifted each of his sons one of these 25 acre parcels of land. It seems the 3 sons were not keen to stay around and eventually all three blocks were sold off. The Gateway is the end of these original 3 blocks. The site allows mainly for camping and relaxing although there are numerous dirt roads to explore, Mudgee wineries close by and Burrendong Dam not far away (accessible via Hill End Road near Erudgere). Hargraves is also known for it's alluvial gold deposits and fossickers still go there regularly to check out Louisa Creek. There is 15km's of dirt road which needs to be traveled to reach the property. Dependent on weather, and whether it has been graded recently, this road can be in varying states of repair. Kangaroos, snakes, various lizards, including shinglebacks, are often seen on these roads.

We had a great time camping at Home Base. It’s very quiet and peaceful with lots of animals to see and plenty of bush land. Firewood is plentiful and the Forge is great for camp fire cooking and keeping warm on the colder nights. The undercover area is great from protecting you from the elements and the added toilet and shower make it comfortable. If your looking for somewhere to unwind and relax this is it. Added bonus is there’s a little shop not far at Hargraves if you need any groceries and the service is great. Sonya is a great host and we recommend staying here and would gladly stay again.

You get an authentic travel experience once you brave the long dusty gravel road. Remote and Picturesque . It’s typical Australian bush.. If you’re looking for quiet time - this is the place. Clean bathroom and toilet facilities are a bonus. The place is a work in progress -which is charming. Great historical towns and surrounds that are worth exploring . We are definitely coming back Sonya you’re a gem and a great host - thanks for making us welcome.

Camping yet again at The Gateway!
Back for another visit to this peaceful location. Convenient to Mudgee area but private. Always happy to return. Description and photos remain accurate.

Always great
Stayed several times now and always come back for the privacy of the large bush block, huge covered area, fenced for the dog and the added bonus of a loo, wash-up area and hot water. Place is looking great and even with a little rain, it's still an amazing spot to chill out for a day or so and unwind
