Primitive camping
Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
Nestled in a mountainscape just off the highway but in a world of its own lies Redgate Farmstay. We host campers and glampers in Tiny Homes. We love to share our special spot on this property. Redgate dates back to the late 1800s as a site that convicts built a barricade and huts along. You will have a sense of this when you enter through the old rustic cattle sheds and cattle crush. We have constructed our Tiny Homes in keeping with the style of the property. Over the driveway is the Biobank Stewardship area (that joins to a quiet State Reserve) that is protecting a rare butterfly, possum and tiny bat. Take walks in this area but tread lightly! Enjoy the best of the comforts of flushing toilets (supplied by our own rain water tank) and electricity connected to solar whilst enjoying the surrounds of a beautiful spot in nature. You'll feel a world away, and best enjoyed with a small group, 2 families or 2 couples! Well behaved pets are welcome (there are horses in the adjacent paddock that might come say hello). Enjoy walks on our extensive property and breathe in the mountain air. Kayaking is available for a small booking fee of $10 per kayak. Please note there are other guests at other places in the property (Homestead and Container Home) along our 650m dirt driveway in separate locations. Guests can relax beside a tranquil dam and enjoy a private outdoor BBQ firepit area.

Upper Dam Site
Not suitable for caravan.
Several issues with this site. It's really not suited for caravans. Entry is off the freeway with one lane going downhill. Av truck bearing down on us & we missed it and did a long circle to get back. There was a narrow bridge then a gate with cattle grid. In retrospect I should've opened the gate to avoid the grid as it was really narrow. This same gate was an absolute nightmare to get out as it goes uphill and turns right at the same time. I nearly scratched my caravan. Secondly there was no level site. It all sloped down to the little dam. I couldn't get me van level and it was really an experience to sleep at an angle. If I was just using their facilities with a car it would've been fine. But seriously this setup is terrible for a caravan.

Red Tiny Home with Mountain View
Lovely Weekend Escape
We stayed 2 nights in the Redbird tiny home & were very impressed. Though small, it was very comfortable & functional. It had all the necessary utensils to cook & eat. Great shower with fantastic heat & excellent water pressure. Even though the weather was cool, we were warm & comfy in the home. There were people occupying the tiny home next door & we did feel a lack of privacy. No problem if you're sharing with friends, but if not it definitely lacks privacy when all are enjoying the outdoors area. We would suggest a simple divider on the shared path. Easy to walk around but offering that out of sight privacy if not with friends. Though quaint, the stairs are quite steep & a little wobbly. With no handrails, they would not be suitable for older people (or possibly after a few beers 😉). We could not see the home manual & would have liked to know how much the bubbles were if we wanted to purchase them as well as possible recommendations for local restaurants & attractions. Though there is some road noise during the day, the nights were nature at its best. We saw several kangaroos on both days as well as the resident horses, an unidentified small marsupial & a rabbit (we think). The only other drawer back was the unlevel ground. We bought along a gazebo to be able to remain outside if raining but the ground was unsuitable to use. Overall we had a lovely stay & would have no hesitation in recommending or rebooking Redbird again.

Delightful 3BR 2Bath Container Home
Work in progress overpriced dive.
This place was a joke! Building material rubbish everywhere not safe for kids. Grey water spilling under the exposed underneath of container. Outside area simply looked unfinished. Main shower area leaked in hallway which they already knew about. Was a total rip off would not recommend. Been to so many holiday cabins homes and this was the worst. We aired our issues and the owner didn’t reimburse a cent.

Delightful 3BR 2Bath Container Home
Disappointing to say the least.
We stayed in the 3 bedroom container house for the long weekend holiday (6 adults, 4 children). Sadly we were all disappointed with our accommodation. The location is nice but the accommodation was not as described and we feel overcharged for what we received. The shower described as ‘luxe’ unfortunately wasn’t plumbed properly and consequently flooded the downstairs of the unit. We informed the owner who said that if someone came to fix it it would cause more disruption so it was left and we all had to use the ensuite. The bathroom light didn’t work so we had to use the hall light in order to see at night. The accommodation wasn’t clean with crumbs & hairs on the floor and bathrooms weren’t cleaned properly. There was a desk with a computer and books that took up space in one bedroom with no benefit to guests. The outside had piles of rubbish (presumably from prior work) lying around as well as under the container - it wasn’t safe for our young children to run around unattended. There were glass bottles and crushed cans left outside. The bunk bed downstairs felt unstable and we were not happy to sleep there with our children underneath-so we slept in a tent. The door to this room was also extremely difficult to open/close and woke our children up when we went in. We gave feedback to the owner who disappointingly only offered a discount on another stay but we won’t be going back. The one good point was the coffee machine which made nice coffee.

Delightful 3BR 2Bath Container Home
Not as described
We enjoyed our weekend away with friends, however the accommodation was not as described and for the price was not value for money. The shower broke and flooded an area of the accommodation which when the accommodation is small is not easy to manage, especially with children. In addition the bathroom light didn’t work. The accommodation wasn’t clean, under beds and chairs throughout the container was dusty with crumbs and hairs. There were numerous items left in the rooms that took up space that provided no benefit to guests. The outside area had piles of rubbish lying around presumably from where work had been done and under the container there was rubbish left. In front of the container on the grassed area there were numerous glass bottles and crushed cans that should’ve been cleaned up. The bunk beds were extremely wobbly and we were not happy to use them with others underneath. The door to the downstairs bedrooms were also extremely difficult to open. It is a shame as this could be a lovely retreat, but in its current state we would not recommend.
