Harper Farms is a fourth generation, family owned cattle property out of the small township of Cangai; just 50 minutes west of Grafton. Located along the Mann River, just one kilometre off the Gwydir Highway, campers will find easy access to our riverfront site. The property is bordered by the Dandahra Creek and the Mann River, and boasts a variety of native bird and wildlife; peacocks, platypus, ducks and the occasional pelican to name a few. The Mann River is open to fishing November - July; and is a local favourite as a kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and swimming destination. Beef cattle and stock horses have been run continuously on the property since the early 1900s, and our friendly horses and cows will often pay a visit to the campsite. Along with our working dogs, we also run a small breeding kennel of Golden Retrievers and Border Collies. Dogs are always welcome on the farm, and we simply ask that camp visitors keep them under their control during their stay. A small shop with basic amenities (groceries, camp supplies, fishing bait, fuel) is located at Jackadgery; a 15 minutes drive east on the Gwydir Highway. To the west of Harper Farms lies the Gibraltar Range which hosts Washpool National Park with walking trails, waterfalls, rainforest and swimming areas. Away from the city lights, the Cangai area offers exceptional stargazing and is popular with keen astronomers and photographers. Our property currently hosts one large campsite; ideal for family and large group gatherings. Booking the site includes complete privacy for your group whether large or small. Our family and friends have gathered at Harper Farms for over a century to enjoy the beauty of the Cangai area, and we are excited for you to come “Camp Cangai” too!

Magical camping
Camp Cangai was absolutely amazing!!! Beautiful location to disconnect from the world and enjoy nature at its finest. We ended up booking an extra 2 nights while we were there because we just didn't want to leave, highly recommend to any travellers or holiday makers!!

Camp Cangai Site 2
Great location and quite private. The sites were well spaced out so we weren't camping ontop of each other. The toilet was clean. Our dog had lots of fun playing in the river and chilling by the fire. Great area for paddling and fishing on the Mann river away from the very busy and packed area outside of the farm. Very happy that we booked this place for a small fee rather than staying at the free camping area which was packed out and everyone was right next to each other.

What an extraordinary privilege...
I feel so privileged to have experienced and shared Harper Farms Land. There’s no services there of any kind. But also there, is everything 🙌🏻 Each day I bathed on private banks of the GIGANTIC Mann river, and it was extraordinary. When you book a site, you've the location all to yourself. It's so special. I had zero reception, so something to be prepared for (I loved it). 15 mins down the road there's a caravan park that has service, supplies and welcomes day visitors. I'd recommend arriving well before dark to set up. You'll need to dodge the cow patties (it is a working cattle property) - though there is plenty of room to do so. The ground is also very rocky underneath, making it difficult to hammer in tent pegs - I had to regroup many times. All things you don't want to be doing in the dark / rain, as I stupidly did! Each day the cows and horses came to visit, even settling in at my camp - I think they were enjoying my play list! Mick and Raili were overseas when I visited, however their caretakers at the time were so lovely - even going as far as to come and check on me when an enormous storm hit out of nowhere, then bringing me a spare pillow / blanket upon realising I'd very much been caught unprepared! Thank you Mick and Raili for sharing your space - I've been on the road for 3 weeks, and this stands out as the most ruggedly raw and beautiful destination so far. I'm so very grateful for my time there, and I'd love to return with my family.
