You will be camping on historic property- the place where the women and children hid during the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Your campsite faces Sharpshooter Ridge. This valley area was the home of Wellknown Buffalo, a medicine woman and activist who protected and fed Native families traveling along the river between reservations. Learn more about this historic land: You'll pitch your tent on the Crow Indian Reservation in the historic valley just below the site of the Battle of the Little Big Horn. This area was part of the battlefield where the women and children camped. Campsites are in view of Sharpshooter Ridge. This business is owned by Native Americans. You will be staying near the Wellknown Buffalo Living Culture Campus and Artists Coop. The property has a gate that is closed at night. You'll find a cafe/coffee house, gift shop, horse activities, bathrooms and showers, and a gathering porch. You are just several miles from Little Big Horn Battlefield National Monument and centrally located for many local adventures, including the Medicine Wheel, Yellowtail Dam, Warrior Trail Highway and Big Horn Scenic Highway. For the less adventurous, there is a cabin loft rental with a full bathroom, 1/2 mile away.

Wellknown Buffalo/Crow Indian Camp
Great History!
Peggy was super inviting. We got a rundown on the history of the land and learn a lot about the mission of the organization. It was really great. We made several animal friends. It was a little difficult to find. Google sent us west of the highway down a dirt road. Luckily someone found us an lead us to the campground which is east of the highway just north of the Gerryowen exit.

Wellknown Buffalo/Crow Indian Camp
Very noisy
The campsite was very different to what I expected. It is noisy and I barely slept. The campsite is beside a very busy road and busy rail line, with trains blowing horns all night long. I was the only camper on the night I was there. Perhaps because of this, it felt very strange being in someone's yard but I felt safe. I welcomed the company of the very friendly family dogs! I was met by Peggy's daughter, who gave me a quick tour of the facilities. I saw her again at breakfast and she explained the Crow history to me. I thought there may be more of a Native American experience to the stay. I admire what the center does and am happy to support the cause with the camping fee, but was disappointed with the location.

Wellknown Buffalo/Crow Indian Camp
Peggy and Co-hosts were friendly and accommodating. We went for crow fair and wish we could have stayed longer and participated in the many programs Peggy Well Known Buffalo has to offer for learning about Crow people and culture. Dry camping spots were great. Easy to find. Bathrooms/showers clean and comfortable. Friendly dogs and kitty also there to great us.

Fantastic experience
This was a wonderful experience. My two teen boys and I stayed here the first night of a two week camping road trip and we loved it. Peggy and family are wonderful hosts, and the work they do for the community is incredible. Stay in the tee pee! You won’t be disappointed. Do bring bug spray; there are lots of mosquitos and flies

Wellknown Buffalo/Crow Indian Camp
Camping on an eclectic property!
We truly enjoyed our experience at Wellness Buffalo. We camped out in tents. There is a fire ring for camp fires. The camp area has plenty of room. There are clean bathrooms with hot showers. We had a wide open view. There are horses dogs cats and a hard working family that makes for a comfortable stay. We would come back!

Wellknown Buffalo/Crow Indian Camp
Having horses and dogs running around on the property is just my kind of place! Peggy and her family were the best and the other campers were great to chat with. By the time I left, it felt like saying goodbye to family! Although I was scheduled for tent camping, I was upgraded to a teepee stay, and loved the experience. Thank you Peggy
