Camping near Glasgow guide

Overview

Explore the wide-open landscapes of Montana’s Great Plains on a camping trip near Glasgow. A shining jewel in the region is Fort Peck Lake, about 20 minutes south of town. Campgrounds dot the northern section of the lake, offering plenty of opportunities for boating and fishing on the water. Boat rentals, jet skiing, and catching massive 30-pound king salmon are among the most popular activities here. RV sites may come with electrical hookups, while tent camping has amenities like flush toilets, showers, picnic tables, children’s playgrounds, and a basketball court. For more of a rustic camping trip, escape to over one-million acres of untouched Montana wilderness at Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge. From riparian zones by the Missouri River to vast grasslands, the refuge is especially appealing for backcountry camping with minimal facilities. Take note of peak elk viewing times—they occur during the breeding season in September and October, when herds gather in the hundreds at the Slippery Ann viewing area.
