Porcupine Hollow Farm is a former cattle farm. From the early 1900’s to the 1970’s the farm belonged to the Knowles family. The Hanlon family purchased the farm in 1978. It was turned into a Christmas tree farm in 1989. We have two beautiful historic barns (one once housed a circus elephant) and a more modern horse barn. Located on one hundred acres with ponds, streams, hardwood forests, Christmas tree fields and natural cedar swamps. We are located less than a mile from downtown Central Lake, but the farm feels very secluded. There is a huge ridge line between the farm and town. We are only a few miles from Torch Lake and Lake Michigan. Centrally located for easy day trips. Only 45 minutes from Traverse City and Petoskey, just under two hours from Mackinaw City and the upper peninsula on Michigan.Enjoy camping in our camper on our secluded site with a view of the farm pond. The camper is 25’ long with a Queen size bed in the main living area, the dinette turns into a double bed and there are three narrow bunks. The bunks are suitable for a child or small teen. **Up to three children can stay with up to two adults. **. We have camped with the teens in the camper and it was snug. The camper has heat, air conditioning, a small bathroom and kitchen. We have an outdoor shower available on the side of the camper and one inside. Cold water only. There are hot showers a few miles down the road at the county park for $0.50. We provide sheets, blankets, towels, dishes, pots and pans, basic seasonings and oils, a starter supply of paper goods and soap. No laundry is available on site, but there is a laundry mat within a five minute drive. Our camper is simple, but cozy and in great shape! Plan to spend an evening by the bonfire, time enjoying the trails and make sure you take advantage of all our beautiful lakes in the area. We are a short walk from Central Lake where you can find everything you would need. There is a wonderful local grocery store, Mammoth distillery with outdoor seating, Fudgees with local ice cream and fudge. In town we also have The Blue Pelican restaurant. Beautiful Torch Lake is five minutes away and it is about ten minutes to Lake Michigan. On the farm, we have turkeys, ducks, chickens, rabbits, miniature horses, a mule and friendly free range goats. As an additional add on, we can arrange to spend 1-2 hours together grooming animals and/or taking the goats on a hike. As a life long animal lover and 4-h leader I love educating others and sharing my animals with people. We do have crowing rosters! They help defend our hens from predators, but are friendly with people. Guests are welcome to help us feed the animals. The spot is very peaceful and private. Expect some occasional noise from our tractor and the critters.
