Jake's Landing consists of the only general store, gas station, package center, catering/event center, and camping spot in the unincorporated town of Porthill, Idaho. Porthill is on the International Selkirk Loop located just south of the U.S. Customs office on State Highway 1, which is directly adjacent is the Rykerts Border Crossing in Canada. The International Border is also the start of the Wild Horse Trail Scenic Byway which travels from the border south on State Hwy 1 to US Hwy 95 south to Sandpoint, Idaho. Originally known by native Americans as Ockonook, which means grassy hillside place overlooking water. This was a historical Native American meeting place. The Hudson Bay Co. established it as a trading post around 1890, Porthill has enjoyed a long and colorful history. Camping here is a beautiful, country experience along the banks of the Kootenai River as it flows north into Canada. This picturesque spot is at the very top of Idaho surrounded by mountains. Enjoy boating, fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, etc… as well as walking and biking the local area or enjoy the many beautiful hikes and waterfalls throughout the region. Arrive here by car, or boat, or plane via Eckhart international Airport grass landing strip adjacent to the accommodations. The perfect “Landing” spot for your getaway adventure. Also, on property is a convenience store, gas station, and shipping center. For group events, dining and/or catering is available. An outhouse is accessible when convenience store is closed.A beautiful, country-rustic experience along the banks of the Kootenai River as it flows north into Canada. River front camping
Great riverfront spots. Canada is on the other side and the border crossing is under a mile away. Made for a really nice camping spot before we headed up into Banff, Canada. Wendy was super friendly and easy going.

You can see Canada!
There are so many great things to mention! We camped in tents right near the river, right accross from Canada! The drive from Spokane was about 3 hours and was very beautiful. The host Wendy was very pleasant and welcoming! And so were the other fellow campers! I really appreciated that this place was dog friendly because we don't like leaving ours behind. The campsites are all level and grassy, so it is great for kids and pets and to play camping games in. Since this is a review, I would also like to mention some less than ideal things as well. To start, you don't have direct water access from your campsite unless you want to walk down a steep, grassy, rocky hill. The water access was an old boat launch with sharp cement and old wires and rebarb. You have to walk a good distance to it, along with the bathroom. Not the easiest thing to do with kids and dogs, but we made the most of it. Now the kicker here was the wind. I didn't read anything about it anywhere, but Wendy did mention when we arrived, it can pull your tent out of the ground and let us borrow some longer tent stakes. Now, that wind storm was the most terrible experience with my 2 year old. A huge tree branch fell and hit our truck while we were inside of it. Luckily no one was hurt, but it caused us to leave a day early. We would definitely do it again, however we would bring a camping trailer next time, not a tent.

Jake's Landing Kootenai River Front
We had a wonderful weekend at Jake’s Landing. Olivia was incredibly hospitable and welcoming! We loved waking up on the river front and going out on the kayaks and swimming off the dock. And our pup loved waking up to a morning swim as well. We will definitely be back very soon!

Our favorite campsite!
This is our favorite camping site! We have been using hipcamp for about a week throughout Oregon, Idaho and Montana, this site is the most special of everywhere we've been. The location on the riverfront was serene and the dock is accessible for swimming. The hosts are hospitable and knowledgeable about the history and geography of the area. We would absolutely stay here again!
