Cabin on 110+ acres back'n to national forest will recharge your soul! It sits on Sangre de Cristo mountainside w/ 100 mile views & access to some of the areas best hiking & alpine lakes!

DRIVING TO THE CABIN WILL REQUIRE A HIGH CLEARANCE 4x4

If you don't have the right vehicle, backpack it! You can park at the trailhead during your stay and hike to the cabin (1.4 miles with elevation gain of 1k ft).

The space
SUMMER & FALL (May 9th through August): Recent feedback / reviews were heard and resolved mid 2021 and we improved the property with linens, deep cleanings, and the place is looking great! The initial part of the road to the cabin is VERY rough. Low clearance vehicles don't have a chance. Jeeps, SUVs and high clearance trucks/SUVs can make it if they have AWD or 4WD.

This property is run similar to the 10th mtn division hut system.

For a great experience you provide: cooler, drinking water, food, ice (fridge is shut off), towel, toilet paper + a good attitude. Linens are on site but since it's off grid there's no washer and dryer so feel free to bring a sleeping bag if desired (but not necessary).

We provide: an amazing cabin, generator power, running water (*summer and fall--not during winter*), flushing toilet inside and an outhouse outside, cold shower, firewood & all you need to prepare & serve food.

*Please note, we discourage single night bookings for Fridays or Saturdays during the summer, 2 night minimum requested (you can book Thursday or Sunday to get to your two nights though). This is due to our limited seasonal rental window and the costs to maintain an off-grid cabin of this magnitude. Please note if you have pets we do leave rodent poison in corners/closets etc so be mindful for your loved critters.

WINTER BOOKINGS --(December through April): we are now offering this cabin during winter season for ski touring, cross country skiing and snowmobilie enthusiasts! This will be pack it in, pack it out and clean up after yourselves honor system. 3 night minimum booking in the winter season. NO WATER OR INDOOR TOILET, outhouse only for your toilet, propane cooking stove for food and wood burning stove for heat. I have personally visited for winter ski touring and the skin up is a nice workout but not unreasonable (1.5 miles from parking below to cabin). Cozy fireplace and true winter escape! Note in Winter there is a "cleaning" fee but this is to offset our winter stocking of materials, firewood, etc; pack it in pack it out during winter no official cleaner.
Guest access
The 100+ acre property is gated and private backing to thousands of acres of national forest right out the backdoor.
Other things to note
Westcliffe is a certified Dark Sky City, we highly recommend you come ready to gawk at the stars as the views are ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!

From the cabin, you can bag a 14er (Humboldt peak) if you are an animal, or take a gorgeous 4.4 mile one way hike to south colony lake for us mortals. Don't forget your pole, there be fish in them lakes!!! Or simply take in the views and enjoy the serenity. Your choice!
