Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Splitrock Farm Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers. Splitrock Retreat Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 200 foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

Splitrock Valley - Stargazer
Camping over the eclipse weekend.
Camping at Splitrock was easy and relaxing. Booked the weekend to watch the eclipse and the view from the Stargazer site was beyond from what I expected. The tent I added was ready for me upon my arrival so setting up was a breeze. Water was available and a the port-a-potty was not far away. I did not, however, locate the power outlets and there was not trash can near by, so don't forget to bring your big trash bags. Staff was nice and helpful. I look forward to camping here again during the summer.

The Oak Grove Communal Camp
Splitrock was a really cool spot to camp - our kids loved exploring, scrambling on the rocks, and biking around our site. The views were great. At the moment, it is self-check in and there isn’t a Hipcamp host - we felt fine, but it was a tad bit confusing sorting out where we should park/set up. It’s helpful to know that in case you are new to camping, Hipcamp, or coming in without access to cellular service for pulling up the site map. We’d come back!

Granite Tabernacle Private Views
without a doubt the best local spot to visit. Amazing views, and so clean. The dirt roads to the campsite are also well maintained, a lowered 65 VW beetle made it up the hills just fine. Staff at the entrance was very kind. Campfire location was perfect, no trash found. Water hose on site was a blessing!! I'll be back
