Amazing views
Hipcampers say this spot has amazing views.
For 70 years the Nelson family has been farming vineyards and attracting people every year to the beautiful region of Hopland. It is truly a family affair as each generation has put in their time and energy, infusing this ranch with their own flair. In 1951 Herman and Clara Nelson sold their ranch in what is now Silicon Valley and headed north, landing in Southern Mendocino County near the town of Hopland. Since then the mature prune orchards and grass-fed sheep that dotted the farm’s rolling hills have given way to an abundance of sustainable vineyards as well as Bartlett pears, an olive orchard, and live Christmas Trees. You will be staying on a working ranch, vineyards, and winery. We have several locations but none of them have hookups at this time. We have vineyard views and oak woodlands and hilltop valley views. We host weddings and other events. We have a tasting room and a redwood picnic area. We are the fourth owners of this property. The ranch has produced hops, prunes, pears, wine grapes, sheep, and cattle at different periods. Currently, we grow pears, grapes, strawberries, and Christmas trees. You will be camping on a working ranch, vineyards, cattle ranch, and winery. We have several locations but none of them are developed with hookups at this time. We have vineyard views, oak woodlands, a strawberry stand, and a Christmas tree farm that is open the day after Thanksgiving. We host weddings and other events. We have a tasting room and a redwood grove picnic area.  Follow Google Maps to the tasting room at Nelson Family Vineyards which is open from 10 am to 5 pm. They will check you in, give you a map of the campsites, and give you the gate code. The road to the campsites is one lane with passing turnouts but we encourage campers to wait to access the campsites after 12 pm and and leave before 12 pm. When pulling a trailer with a hitch, vehicles need to be 4-wheel drive to access the camping sites. We are the fourth owners of this property. The original owner, Don Juan Feliz called it the Sanel Rancho. Feliz transferred our valley to John Knight for services rendered after the Mexican-American War in 1846 to regain the title to the Sanel Rancho from Congress. Leslie Crawford purchased it from Knight's wife and later purchased several homesteads. The ranch has produced hops, prunes, pears, wine grapes, sheep, and cattle at different time periods. Currently, we raise pears, grapes, strawberries, and Christmas trees.

Gorgeous Views, private campsite
We loved camping at Gregs! The views are spectacular. It feels very private and remote, but easily accessed. Close to wine tasting. Will definitely come back again.

Curious cows and amazing views
We loved the location and the incredible views. It is a special place. We went after a big rainstorm, so we knew the valley would be lush and green, but we were surprised by the views in February- so spectacular! Things to know: 1) The road to the top of the camp area is steep. We pulled our 17' Casita with no problem, but I did put the truck into 4WD. 2) There are over a dozen curious cows who will investigate your camp site when you are not there, or while you are sleeping. I would have been alarmed by the noise if I hadn't read the other reviews. They are not aggressive, but they do leave a lot of cow patties. If you are squeamish, bring a shovel to clean your site. 3) The wine tasting room has a lovely outdoor area in a grove of Redwoods, perfect for a picnic. The red blend is delicious! We will definitely return. I plan to bring family and friends because there is so much to do in the area, and Greg's land is so beautiful. Thanks to the family for hosting!

Traveling from Oregon to SoCal
Simple, hilltop campsites with great views. Check in and directions to sites were easy. Wish we would have arrived early enough to enjoy the tasting room.
