Moonlight Mesa
Stargazers Dream
I selfishly don’t even want to leave a review bc that’s how badly I want to keep this hidden gem to myself. We camped out under the stars Saturday for the Perseid’s Meteor Shower and I’ve never seen the night sky like this in my entire life. Not even in JTNP. The Milky Way was visible across the entire sky and shooting stars and fireballs lit up the night sky. Already planning my next trip back to moonlight Mesa for the next meteor shower!

Lovely evening under the stars
Spent a lovely evening in the desert- a bit of trouble in the beginning trying to find where we should camp. Andie was very helpful once we were in touch. This is rustic, meaning, there is nothing but mesa so you have to bring everything with you ( including your toilet facilities.)

Moonlight Mesa
Just what we needed.
Moonlight Mesa is a very nice spot and proved perfect for our needs. After several other Hipcamps in the area had canceled unexpectedly or were unresponsive (very frustrating experiences), we were happy to find Moonlight Mesa. This is just raw land. There are no services, water, toilets, etc. If you are prepared for this type of camping, it is a nice option. Access to the property requires navigating some dirt roads with some washouts, often deepish sand, and obstacles, but nothing challenging. Most 2WD vehicles I think will manage fine with careful driving and navigating. The land has plenty of flat areas and is covered with sparse desert shrubs and grasses... the ground is sand and small gravel. There is no shade so be prepared for full sun from the moment the sun rises, to sets. There were 3-5 other camp groups on the property but everyone set up far from one another and seemed to respect one another in keeping distance. We could see lights and hear some voices from other campers but we had plenty of solitude and privacy. There was some trash around the property, which was not too obnoxious, but unfortunate. We picked up some around where we chose to set up camp. It would be nice if you did the same. The views were beautiful, the stars were incredible and the desert air was fresh and cleansing. I would return to Moonlight Mesa and recommend it for remote, dry, desert camping.

Views were great! It was a little hard to find at night. The site was clean and overall a fun experience. Views were amazing at night.
