DESERT DAISY - Joshua Tree rural

19 sites ¡ Lodging, RVs, Tents5 acres ¡ Joshua Tree, CA
Family, group, solo and pet-friendly tent camping on your choice of platforms, ground camps, or in a tiny cabin - on 5 acres of off-grid, rural private land, at the base of Copper Mountain, under a billion stars. Enjoy camping, hiking, bouldering, stargazing, relaxing in a spacious yet private, beautiful surrounding. Contact me for pricing for all-camp booking (limit 32 people), production, photo shoots. Sorry, no drones, no loud parties or music after 11pm - my neighbors get upset. Quiet time is 11pm at camp and you can hang out up the mountain at the big firepit as long as you want. Desert Daisy is 6 miles from Joshua Tree National Park, 4 miles from Hwy 62 shops and art galleries, JT Saloon, restaurants. Less than 2 miles to Joshua Tree Music Festival, Joshua Tree Lake and Campground, the Transmissions sculptures, Noah Purifoy's Museum. Mesa Market is 2 miles the other way and has firewood, ice, water, a taco truck, some of everything, and is open til 10pm. Sites inside the fenced area are Big 6, Site 2, Flower Power Platform 1 and Fencer. Mountain Majesty 7, Lazy 8 and Snowkiss Chalet are outside the fenced area and can best accommodate small RVs and larger camper vans. Windbreaks are at all sites except Fencer and Lazy 8. Parking, firepits, tables and seating, are at each site, and most have a BBQ grill too. The Community Area - shared by all campers - has shade, a windbreak, big tables with seating for 16, 2 bbq grills with coals and basic cooking supplies in the file drawers, a 2-burner propane camp stove, solar string lights, and more. Big 6 is closest to the Community Area; Fencer is farthest. Enjoy a bouldering hike to the top of the mountain behind MM7 and Lazy 8, where you'll find a huge firepit with big rocks to sit on, and incredible views. For entire Desert Daisy booking, you get the whole place minus my owners cabin, private deck and storage RV. You'll have the Community Area, and i can offer a big shade umbrella, a big 2-burner stove with 25 gallon propane tank, pots, pans, extra seating, a hammock with metal frame, games, even a huge 16x16ft glamping tent that fits on Big 6 - at extra cost. Contact me directly to discuss. The Smoking Area is at the far tip of the land inside the fence, by the Fencer site and offers casual seating, a coffee table, incredible views and a bucket for your butts. When Fencer is booked, those hipcampers have the area for their own use. Amenities include a flush toilet, porta potty, big sink with dish liquid and scrubbers, hand wash station near both toilets, water tower with hose attached to refill the dishwashing water canister or to wash your hands, a solar shower stocked with soap, shampoo, body wash. Bring your own drinking water, lights for night, warm clothes. Firewood is available for purchase from my neighbor the other side of the mountain - ask me for his address. Big 6 is a huge 20'x20' raised platform, and is also great for yoga sessions, retreats, acoustic guitar groups, chat sessions, etc. Flower Power Platform 1 has a 10'x10' platform and a big 16'x16' sandy area next to it for more tents, parking, canopy, etc. Fencer is at the far tip of my property and is a narrow 3-tent groundcamp great for car camping or tent plus car. Site 2 has a 10'x12' tent platform, parking for 2 cars or 1 car and a small tent. Snowkiss Chalet is a tiny, Disneyland food kiosk turned into an off-grid, solar-powered glamping pod with a big double-pane picture window, porch with windbreak and seating, screen door, outdoor kitchen, big picnic table, solar shower bag, parking and more tent space. Mountain Majesty 7 is behind the shipping container and is a private groupcamp site with a windbreak, 2 big picnic tables with holes in them for your own umbrella, 3 firepits, plenty of parking, and has Caboose- a unique shipping container deck and lounge area. The native plants, flowers, wildlife and kangaroo mice at night add to the charm, and there are no mosquitos! The fallen branches of the creosote bushes make perfect kindling for your firepit. Be sure to look under your vehicle so you don't drive over any local wildlife enjoying the shade. IMPORTANT: Follow my directions pin which I send the morning of your arrival, or you may end up on the other side of the mountain. Again, bring lights and drinking water and warmth for chilly desert nights. All sites are clean, well-maintained, have incredible views and star gazing and a feeling of serenity as you enjoy the beauty of nature. It is a wonderful space. Please contact me, your Host Judy, for inquiries for production, photo shoots or all-sites booking as we want to ensure that all hipcampers have a pleasant experience.

The best camping near Joshua Tree National Park guide

Overview

About

Joshua Tree National Park feels a little offbeat. And we like it. Maybe it's the cartoonish boulders, beloved by rock climbers and Instagrammers. Or the abandoned mines, lonely oases, and black-tailed jackrabbits that hang around the place like misfits. The namesake trees are a bit fanciful themselves, dotting the California desert with their branches askew like some sort of carefree, silly walkers. Hikers follow trails that twist through boulder clusters, climb scrubby mountains, and beeline to spring-fed oases while rock climbers have their pick of 8,000 established routes. For free-spirited fun, get thee to JT.

Joshua Tree National Park Glamping

Drive east from Los Angeles for a few hours, passing Palm Springs along the way, and you’ll find yourself in Joshua Tree National Park, an otherworldly desert expanse named for the funky little trees that grow here. While you won't find any glampsites inside Joshua Tree National Park (camping options inside the park are limited to RV and tent camping), there are loads of options just outside the park's boundaries, many of which you can reserve on Hipcamp. Take your pick from vintage campervans and trucks, classic canvas bell tents and yurts, geodesic domes, and even shipping containers that have been transformed into tiny homes.

Notable campgrounds

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Of the park’s nine campgrounds, Cottonwood and Indian Grove have individual and group sites. Sheep Pass is a group campground.
  2. Campsites at Black Rock, Cottonwood, Indian Cove, Jumbo Rocks, Ryan, and Sheep Pass campgrounds are available by online reservation from September to May. You can reserve a site as early as six months in advance.
  3. Belle, Hidden Valley, and White Tank campgrounds are first-come, first-served. They’re extremely popular in spring, so arrive early in the week for your best chance of securing a spot.

When to go

Joshua Tree National Park is open year-round, but the busy season is October through May. Since the park sits at the intersection of two deserts—the Mojave and Colorado—summer is not the best time, with daytime temperatures exceeding 100°F. Spring is busiest, when crowds arrive for wildflower blooms and pleasant weather. Fall temperatures are similarly mild. The thermometer hovers at 60°F during the day in winter, with freezing temperatures at night.

Know before you go

  • The park has no cell service, but wifi is available at the Oasis and Joshua Tree Visitor Centers.
  • It’s recommended that visitors bring one gallon of water per person per day to stay hydrated.
  • The park has picnic areas, but no restaurants or grocery stores. Buy food and groceries in Twentynine Palms, one of the other small towns along Highway 62, or in Palm Springs.
  • Hammocks, slacklines, and horizontal ropes are not permitted in campgrounds. Elsewhere in the park, they can be tied to rocks and climbing bolts only—never trees or other vegetation.
  • Leashed pets are permitted in campgrounds, but pets are not allowed on trails or in the backcountry.

Nearby attractions

  • Step into the heart of the desert while camping near Mojave Trails National Monument. An untamed wilderness offering unique landscapes, Mojave Trails camping is your chance to experience stunning sunsets, ancient lava flows, and historical routes. A truly magnificent place to reconnect with nature!
  • Soak in panoramic views of towering peaks and vast deserts when camping near the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument. The serenity and beauty of this area offer a distinct camping experience that will leave you rejuvenated and inspired.
