The Aurora RV Park is located in Lake County, which is often referred to as California’s “hidden jewel.” The Aurora has a long history in the area, but some of it isn't well-documented. What happened between 1922 and 1994 is pretty much unknown. Apparently, however, the Aurora was "THE happening spot" on the lake in the 1950s - 1970s. There was a restaurant that was exceedingly popular, and a pier that extended past Otter Island. There, people would be packed shoulder to shoulder, watching boat races. There was also a boat repair shop in the large (6,000 square foot) building that now is being used mostly for storage. Where the pilings are still seen (about 100 yards out from the sea wall) there was a breakwater that protected the interior from the large waves that develop every once in a while. That breakwater allowed the owners to put in a full dock system, where many people apparently stored their boats. The remains of the breakwater are now below the surface, and reportedly those remains serve as habitat for bass, catfish and other desired fish species.
It appears that sometime around 1994, Daniel T. Brennan obtained a permit to put 51 RV spaces on the property north of Lakeshore Boulevard. Whether the spaces south of the road were already in place or if they were installed later is uncertain. Correspondence from January 1999 indicates that a Sam Lamonica purchased the park around that date. Sometime between 1999 and 2004 the property was purchased by the Robinson Rancheria. It was sold to the present owner, Nice RV Park, LLC, in 2015.
Repeatedly rated (by the American Lung Association) as having the cleanest air in the entire nation, the county offers its guests amazing night skies. It also harbors the largest freshwater lake within all of the state’s borders: Clear Lake. A birder’s paradise – with grebes, osprey, pelicans, coots, ducks, geese, as well as many other species of waterfowl – Clear Lake was just rated as the #1 for bass-fishing in all of North America … for the decade! Surrounded by verdant hills (many of which are covered with vineyards) and with a dormant volcano as its centerpiece, the area is a destination treasured by an increasing number of visitors.
Situated on the lake’s more desirable north shore, we at the Aurora aim to provide each of our guests with opportunities to enjoy all that the region offers. We start with our incredible views of the lake, appreciated from any spot along our more than 700 feet of shoreline. In fact, a significant portion of the park is actually “in” the lake, including our “Point” area (next to our grape trellis, large commercial grill, fish tank, and picnic tables). There, the backdrop is simply stunning. This is next to our small beach area, from which the ultimate lake experience arises: We provide canoes and kayaks (including life vests and paddles) – totally free of charge – for every guest to use and venture out into our backyard aquatic wonderland.
As an RV park, we obviously host RVers who drive their rigs to our property. But we also have a variety of tenting locations, and (for those who desire a more “solid” experience) we rent out travel trailers and bus conversions as well. With park-wide Wi-Fi, beautiful clean restrooms (with spacious hot showers), coin-operated washers and dryers, and an activities room (with a large refrigerator, a prep sink, a microwave oven, a toaster, a coffer-maker, and more), the Aurora is an outstanding value for anyone seeking joyous experiences and memories in a magnificent natural setting. As we signal with our web address, we invite you to enjoy our park.
