We are located on a quiet residential street 20 minutes from Port Alberni and en route to Tofino or Ucluelet. We have walking and mountain biking trails minutes from the house. The Portal has limited internet and spotty phone service. There is an outlet for charging, etc. There is no fridge, but we can provide a cooler on request. Private parking is on-site. We can provide a camp stove if required. Please bring your own white gas. Outside food options include the "The Fish & Duck Pub" which is just a short walk away. Call Doordash to deliver a meal from one of our local restaurants or bring a picnic to enjoy. If you are bringing a fur baby, please let us know. It must be on a leash at all times. Please bring your fur baby's favorite blanket or bed to sleep on. We can also provide a comfy hound bed in the room at your request. We kindly ask that you keep your fur baby off the furniture and bed. Welcome to Goats and Boats, 40 acres of poplar trees planted in straight(ish) rows about 25 years ago. Since then the alders and the evergreens have started to join the party in a big way. The property is a work in progress with a little more space opened up each year. We don't have a lot for amenities, but we have quiet space in nature and animals to visit on your way to/from the outhouse. If you are wanting quiet spaces in nature, that is what we have. We have some grassy areas for tents and RVs. Pets are welcome, but they need to be leashed in respect for the goats' peace and freedom. We are on a gravel road about 2 km from the popular Coombs market (with goats on the roof!). We are a young-ish professional couple with an ever increasing number of very friendly Nigerian dwarf goats, some rabbits, some ducks and two pigs. The number of animals is subject to vary without notice! So ask us before booking if it's important to you. But there are always goats roaming the yard, rabbits running about daily. Deer show up occasionally. As you can see in the photos, our property is more wild. It is not a manicured park but we do try to take good care of it and we hope you will too. There are a lot of activities in the area including go-karts, hiking in provincial parks (Englishman River Falls Parks, Qualicum River Falls Park). Mt Arrowsmith is a challenging hike about 30 minutes drive away. Cathedral Grove is about 20 minutes away. There is lovely swimming and great beaches at Parksville and Qualicum, and much more.

Sprout Lake Provincial Park’s lake, known as Kleh-koot, is a popular vacation spot for swimming, fishing, boating and windsurfing. A short walk on an easy lakeside trail takes you to K’ak’awin, one of the most notable panels of prehistoric petroglyphs in the province. The 64-site campground has water spigots and pit toilets, as well as a shower building, a sandy beach, and picnic areas. The park is located in the territory of the Hupacasath and Tseshaht First Nations.

Best for tenting: Five tent-only sites are located in the lower campground in a quiet forested area near the lake.
Best for barrier-free camping: Wheelchair-accessible sites and facilities are located in the lower campground.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Reservations are recommended from mid-May to September and must be booked through the Discover Camping Reservation Service.
If you’re visiting weekends or holidays (Canada Day, BC Day, or Labour Day) you’ll want to secure a spot as far in advance of your trip as possible.
You may be able to score one of the limited numbers of first-come, first-served spots, especially mid-week, if you show up right at check-out time at 11am.
Year-round camping is available in the lower campground, though some facilities may not be available in the off-season.

When to go

Sprout Lake Provincial Park is open for camping year-round. If you’re looking for sunny weather, visit July through mid-September, although this is also the busy season due to the salmon sportfishing season often starting in July. Those seeking a quieter experience will find it less hectic on weekdays when schools are in session, during May, June, and September. The lake is warmest for swimming in August.

Know before you go

Groups looking for larger camping spaces can try nearby Taylor Arm Provincial Park.
Canoe and kayak rentals are available from local businesses, and there’s a boat launch and dock in the park.
Sproat Lake is just 13 kilometres from downtown Port Alberni, making the park a good base for local exploring and hiking.
Port Alberni is famous for its salmon fishing with anglers fishing for sockeye, coho, and Chinook. Robertson Creek Fish Hatchery is well worth a visit to learn more about the importance of salmon to the region.
