You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed. You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. There is a reservoir nearby as well. We are in the midst of the suburbs not far from Fredericksburg, which has some great historic and community places of interest. Weekend Trip to HUNTER'S PARK BY WASHINGTON, DC
Hunters Park at Mezza Luna Farm was awesome. We stayed in the T1 site. Plenty of room for multiple tents and cars. There's firewood for sale right by the site, which was very convenient. There was an outdoor sink at the site, which was nice (though in colder months the water is shut off). There's a porta potty that was very clean - maybe the cleanest portapotty I've ever seen. The farm is beautiful with lots of horses to see. You're allowed to go visit them in the stables. There's plenty of paths to walk around the property if you want to go on a hike. Keith came by to visit - very friendly and welcoming. One family in our group had a couple small children. They did fine and loved seeing the horses. Darlene's land was a perfect hip camp. Usually my dogs and I hit the hay at nightfall, but Darlene's camp has an electric pole with a light, a screened tent with a table and chair, and an extra electric plug (recharge phones) - it was private and serene - plus Darlene was a FANTASTIC communicator, who meets you there to show you how the compostable toilet works, where to get firewood, etc. - then leaves you your privacy. Only a small disclaimer for travelers with dogs, IF you have a reactive dog (as one of mine is) there is quite a bit of wildlife noise in the woods. Highly recommend this hipcamp.

We certainly were pleasantly surprised to be able to camp in the goat field. When the goat farmer removed the goats for feeding into another fenced in field, our dog could run around. The porta-john onsite was a plus.

One of the possible camp sites at the main campground. This is in the middle of the loop in the road at the end. There are other sites on either side and a trailer situated just below. There is a primitive camp shower and compost toilet available for campers. Please make sure you get instructions before using. or you can also rent the trailer for the perfect larger gathering. This bathhouse capacity is for only a few people so for larger groups you need to rent trailer or supply duty bags until I can get a portapotty in.

This is my first time using hipcamp and honestly the experience was perfect. everything looks just like the pictures. it is a very quiet safe neighborhood. I had stuff on top of my car that was untouched and safe in the morning. Bring your own Camp toilet and you're good to go. To be this close to everything. And so much cheaper than a hotel. Would absolutely recommend this place.

Only stayed one night as we were traveling through for a baseball game in Baltimore but we would 100% stay again, we had a nice quiet spot near the back of camp with plenty of room as tent campers. Bathrooms/showers were only a few steps away. Everyone was so nice and welcoming and made us feel safe and right at home. ☺️

Our group of nearly 30 people (including 20 kids!) had the most incredible time at this horse farm campsite. It was truly out-of-this-world perfect! The property is beautiful, peaceful, and full of fun things to do, but what really made the experience special was Keith, the owner. He is so kind, welcoming, and helpful—he went above and beyond to make sure everything was just right for us. The kids loved every minute, from exploring the farm to visiting the horses, and the adults couldn’t have asked for a better setting to relax and enjoy time together. It’s rare to find a place that works so well for such a big group, but this farm was absolutely perfect. We’ve already decided this will be an annual event and can’t wait to be back next fall. Highly, highly recommend!
