About 90 minutes north of New York City, this college town sits on the Wallkill River facing dramatic stone cliffs. New Paltz has a laid-back feel, with corner pubs and farmers markets to grab camping ingredients. The historic village is close to the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains, so it's easy to make day trips to both. Just 8 miles away, the Shawangunk Mountains loom on the horizon. Locals call them the Gunks. The Minnewaska State Park Preserve is here, offering hiking trails, waterfalls, and world-class rock-climbing. Weekend Trip to Beavertides Farm

I would only recommend "maybe" as most of my friends are not as adventurous staying at a working farm. Working is the right way to say it so no fancy paths or high end stuff. Just a very cool relaxing way to spend time around a real farm scene. Hosts were MOST helpful and nice and the tent was huge. Beds super comfy, clean and the fridge came in handy too. Donkey and two horsed milling about was nice. I'd say the solar shower is a bit crude but I've been told it's to be upgraded. The whole area is wonderful. So yeah, you want to chill simply? Come here!

Weekend Trip to Beavertides Farm

What an incredible glamping experience! From the moment we arrived, we were completely enchanted by this hidden gem! The tent itself was beautifully appointed and very spacious. But stepping outside was where the real magic happened: we were immediately immersed in a stunning wild meadow filled with colorful flowers and tall, swaying grasses, all framed by gorgeous forest. The animal encounters made it even more special. A friendly donkey greeted us upon arrival, and throughout our stay we delighted in watching chickens, ducks, and geese wandering freely around the property and grazing in the fields. The location couldn't have been better for exploration. We used it as our perfect base camp for discovering charming nearby villages and tackling some amazing hiking trails. Our host, Marleen, was warm, welcoming, and gave us the most fantastic local recommendations! If you're a nature lover looking for an authentic escape from the everyday, this is your spot.

3 nights at Private Waterfront Camping Oasis

I’ve stayed at both of Alexandra’s hipcamp listings now and they are *chefs kiss* just the perfect marriage of outdoorsy camping and convenience. The weather wasn’t the best while I was there but there was enough cover from the trees that it wasn’t bad. Stayed nice and cozy in the tent. The outdoor shower was a nice touch, especially when the water warmed up. Definitely recommend.
