The farm you’re camping on is one of the last family farms remaining in Columbia County and is named Glenn Farm after DV Glenn who married Hettie Lou Niblack in the 1930’s. Over the last 150 years it has been farmed by some of the county’s oldest families such as the Niblack and Ellis families. When DV Glenn came to Florida from his farm in Cairo, GA he took over the portion of the Niblack farm that was inherited by his wife Hettie Lou. At that time he was running native Florida cattle on over 6000 acres. Unfortunately, In 1951 he was killed in a hunting accident leaving his wife with the farm and 4 children (ages 4-11). In order to survive, Hettie Lou Niblack Glenn was forced to sell 5000 acres at $25 an acre. Holding a bachelors degree from Florida State College for Women, she was able to secure a job at the University of Florida as a secretary and with the money from the land sale she was able to raise her four children. Of the original farm, 600 acres remain intact and the Glenn family is trying to keep the farm as an agricultural operation. Your campsite is 1 of 4 spots (Arrowhead Sink, Dunagan’s Meadow, North Hall Pasture or Magnolia Sink). We also have a 1 bedroom Tiny home that used to be the farm office. Dunagan’s meadow is a pasture behind the old farmhouse (built in 1824), Magnolia sink and The North Hall Pasture are also on the main farm while Arrowhead Sink is on the edge of a hayfield about a mile down a dirt road. Glenn Farm is a place to come relax and experience a world that is rapidly disappearing. It is not a commercial campground.

Parking is only available at the bottom of the driveway for tent campers. All tent sites are less than a 5 minute hike up the trails. There is plenty of firewood available after 3 hurricanes in a year's time. The Bird Ranch is 4 acres of peaceful nature. We have 3 pioneer sites (2 with fire pits), and one RV hook-up (30 Amp power and water) to choose from. We never really know what wildlife is wondering around or when they might pop up. Rest assure though; there are always birds singing, crickets chirping, frogs croaking, owls hooting, and we can even hear the neighboring pigs, chickens, cows, goats and dogs from time to time. I will take all that over city noise any day of the week! The Gofer Turtles are protected wildlife here, but please do not disturb ANY of the animals or their homes. We have had kids destroy a turtle's home before, so please be mindful. The property has trails, an open field for games, and plenty of day outings to do. There are 2 natural springs (Royal Springs and Little River Springs) off the Suwannee River that are each a 10-minute drive. Branford Springs and Troy Springs are within 20 minutes. You can float down the Ichetucknee River on an innertube (seasonal), catch a local rodeo just down Hwy 129 or take a 3 hour round trip bike ride on the Suwannee River Greenway. The Mystic Jungle Educational Facility is a quick 15 minutes up Hwy 129 towards Live Oak, where you can learn about their wild animals on a guided tour, but they are only open on Saturdays. Cedar Key is a quiet little town 1.5 hours away with cute shops and restaurants for a nice day trip ***(also very messed up from hurricanes last year, so no promises)***. They roll up the streets after sunset; but what a beautiful sunset! There are also a few horseback riding ranches within 20 minutes from the property and if you're really adventurous and want to ride a camel; Lonesome Chicken Camel Ranch is less than an hour away. Call ahead to make sure they are open. Please be courteous of your fellow campers and my neighbors, by adhering to a 10 pm noise maintenance.

I’ve stayed at quite a few HipCamps over the years, but this one is hands-down the best experience I’ve ever had. The property truly has a little bit of everything- from friendly farm animals like donkeys, cows, and goats, to an incredible cave with its own private swimming hole. The best part? You’ll have these huge, scenic spaces entirely to yourself. It’s the perfect blend of adventure and tranquility, making it an ideal spot for a weekend getaway. And to top it off, the host, Tom, is one of the coolest and most genuine people you’ll ever meet. He was a pleasure to chat with and shared some fascinating stories about the land’s history that made the stay even more special. We had a wonderfully relaxing time at Dunagan’s Meadow! The camping area was completely private and deep into the property, where traffic and neighborhood noises could not be heard. The camp site is clean and really beautiful - vast and lush with a meadow reminiscent of “The Sound Of Music.” The animals were friendly and we had the entire area all to ourselves! But what really made the experience special was Tom and Judy…they are amazing hosts - really attentive without being overbearing, and genuinely kind. This was our first experience tent camping together and they guided us through the set-up process, made us feel safe and comfortable, and even shared some of their future plans for a vacation home on the property…it will truly be a unique stay to experience once it’s completed! Our 2nd trip here. Perfectly quiet and comfortable camping on the river. Nothing fancy other than the covered area. Has a lovely fire pit and BBQ grills to use. Safe, quiet, and beautiful.

Patricia and John are such great hosts. They met us when we arrived and showed us the site. Then went on to say to make ourselves at home! We had a great stay!!!!! Saw a couple of deer, a white eyed vireo, a yellow rumped warbler, cardinal, blue jays and a gopher tortoise.

Weekend Trip to Off Grid River Camping

Beautiful spot! We made a last minute reservation and Kim was so quick to respond. We had no difficulty finding the place. Didn’t see any humans and it was super quiet. The access to the river is pretty - we didn’t utilize for water activities though. The camp bathroom is convenient, but make sure you’re prepared to pack *everything* out. There was plenty of downed wood for firewood too!

It was such a beautiful place everything was so convenient meaning the river is right behind us so you can take your fishing out. If you wanna fish she had grills lots of hook ups for your RV water. It’s so super cute. I’ll definitely go back and I’ll definitely bring my friends as well and the springs most of all is so close by and it’s really cool place to explore and my favorite part is that you’re kind of off grid cause your phones in and out when it comes to reception which I absolutely loved

Directly on the river with a beautiful view. Secluded and private. Loads of available amenities like games and workout equipment. Be sure to bring everything you need as all of the stores are a significant distance. 🙂 it’s centrally located to many beautiful springs. The hosts are great with quick response time.

Beautiful spot on the Suwannee river. Our kids really enjoyed the stay and an easy paddle to Royal Springs. Royals springs is very stunning and just a lot of fun. Caught some cat fish off the dock. Plenty of space of the kids and dog to run around. Host was very responsive and helpful. Will definitely plan another trip back!

This was our second stay and for good reason. The site has everything you need. We appreciated the cover over the site with the heat wave coming through Florida at the time of our visit. We loved having our morning coffee sitting by the river and afternoon's at the nearby springs. My son still isn't giving up on trying to catch something in the river, but nothing yet. We will definitely be back!

Hosts greeted us as soon as we drove in and quickly and completely explained how to use their property and the hookups. Very nice people and very accommodating: "Make yourself at home." Very peaceful and quiet. The site was flat and grass was mowed. We saw deer in the evening and the morning.

Our second stay at Royal Springs and it was great. Had our canoe and it was difficult to get it in and out because the water was so low, but enjoyed floating down river and trolling up river. Spent some time at the springs and that was lovely. This is a special spot!

5 nights at Royal Springs Riverfront Retreat

We camped in a 35 ft travel trailer. We had an amazing stay. Location was right on the Suwanne River. Plenty of space under the canopy with extra room to put up a tent for my 17yoa grandson who didn't want to stay in the RV with his 11yoa sister and 10yoa cousin. Hookups easy to access, FHU a plus! Nice quiet spot, short 2 min drive to Royal Springs. I always looked forward to morning coffee on the swing by the river. Would definately recommend this site and will be going back again.
