This was originally a Girl Scout camp called Singing Pines back in the 30’s. You’ll see as you roam around some of the original buildings and structures. It hasn’t been in operation as a Girl Scout camp for over 30 years. The neighbor camp bought the lease but haven’t had the funds to revive it yet. DIRECTIONS: Take Exit for Angeles Crest Hwy (Hwy 2) from the 210 Go North, up the mountain for 29 miles Turn left on Sulpher Springs Rd Go about a mile and you will see a Singing Pines sign up on a hill on the right side. There is a white gate which is usually open but if it's closed go ahead and open it. Go down that driveway about a mile and turn left at the fork. Follow that road down and around the lake staying to the right. Once you passed the lake there will be a little uphill and the location is on the left. Learn more about this land: The Skoolie is a converted short bus with two love seats that convert to an RV queen bed, sink, stove top, dinette, and over head lights. Outside is a private meadow with a short walk to a small lake. You can bring your fishing gear. It's stocked with Bass and Bluegill. Outside the Skoolie is a picnic table, fire pit (firewood $10 a bundle) and a hammock. Up the hill, a very short walk is the private campground toilet facility. This is not shared with anyone else. No cell phone reception no linens bring a sleeping bag or warm blankets. You can charge your phone in the Skoolie for a sunrise alarm or just to take pictures.

This was my first solo camping trip with my dog, and I couldn’t have been happier with my choice. Absolutely loved staying at Bear Hallow. The location is super easy to get to, close to the city yet wide and open enough to feel like you’re out in the wild. Emily and her husband are wonderful hosts; so kind and easygoing. They even saved me when I forgot my heavy blankets (duhhh, lol). The camp space is cozy, with absolutely incredible night skies and the bonus of gas fire pits, perfect for cold nights and cozy early morning, I also enjoyed the fresh eggs for breakfast, which were delicious! I left feeling completely recharged and so happy with my experience. I 100% recommend staying here. 💖

Absolutely amazing! From the moment of arrival I could tell Emily & the family have a true passion for the outdoor and hospitality. The land was stunning, some of the best I’ve camped in the Big Bear area. Nicely spread out, quiet, and lots of really cool hiking trails right at your tents door. The property is very clean and welcoming and lots of goodies for the nature lovers. Book multiple nights, you won’t want to leave!!

Enjoyed our stay at Bear Hollow. The place is nice, with lots of open space, a couple of picnic tables, a horseshoe game area, leisure chairs and swing. Em and Murph were nice and provided great communication during our stay. We enjoyed the area. Their place also has chickens, and a nice vegetable garden that was a treat to look at. Bonus, if you like geocaching, there is one located a short distance from their place and made it a nice activity for kids.

Beautiful cabin with everything we needed! Loved exploring the creek and nearby waterfall. Hot tub was great too! Plenty of bedding and cooking supplies. A great place to go if you want to get away without totally unplugging. Jami was very thoughtful in making sure that everything was provided. I came with 8 people, and there was enough room to comfortably fit everyone without too much running into each other. The beds were great, and extra blankets were provided just in case. There was also a washer and dryer, which I wasn't expecting. There's only one bathroom, so there was a little maneuvering with that. The Wi-Fi worked great, even with all of us connected. There is a heater but no AC, although the ceiling fans, along with opening the windows, really helped with the heat. Not to mention, it was cooler outside. The only problem was the bugs, like mosquitoes, since we were here in the summer. There's a stream about a 2-minute walk from the cabin, and I'm pretty sure I could hear it even from inside. There's also a bigger waterfall that was about a 20-minute walk/hike. The area was absolutely beautiful—trees everywhere. You could see squirrels running around, birds in the morning, and at night it was so peaceful and quiet.

I almost don’t want to write this review because then this amazing gem of a hipcamp will be less likely to be available when I want to return, but it wouldn’t be right to keep such a magical place under wraps given what a great host and special place it all is. My dogs were in heaven walking around the vast property and the skoolie is perfectly set up for relaxing days in the hammock, followed by long talks and good laughs by the fire at night. Highly recommend.

My wife and I loved staying in the Skoolie in the Forest! It was our dogs’ first time camping on private grounds and they absolutely loved having the freedom to explore the huge property safely. The skoolie was comfortable and gave a more elevated, yet still organic camping experience. Brian was also nice enough to include a cooler with ice and drinking water for us. We will definitely be back again to make more memories!

Within a 10 acre range of sloping hillside, majestic rock formations and lush exotic landscape, you can find your own ideal camp spot or choose one of our leveled spots, already cleared of dry brush and ready for above ground standard tent camping. Dogs allowed on leash only and be familiar with Southern California's indigenous wildlife proper protocol, when accompanied by your canine. The camping area resides on the North side of the Via Cordoniz access road, starting at Deadwood Dome site and the Detour N De Luz sign at top of staircase, ranging North West 3/4 of the mountain up, and 10 acres left. Please be mindful of the property markers, and respect our neighboring property lines. You are responsible for your own fitness in hiking the inclining trails and staircases. Hiking or walking sticks are highly recommended. A shared cooking area, has been cleared, providing use of the propane gas grill (campers must supply own 1 lb green canister), standard size cooler, small fire extinguisher, and carved or cut seating. Nearby, a shared pit toilet with a small 5 gallon black solar shower bag, shower toga, toilet paper, glass wash basin and pouring bottle-for minor freshening, vanity mirror and 5 gallon water jug, refilled daily- or more frequently, if needed, all located in a pallet wood stall. Two additional 3 persons sleeping tents are both folded and stored at the cooking area, for guest use. Please leave an additional $5 per night, per sleeping tent used and fold back neatly, before check out. If you would like the tent set up and taken down for you, we charge $10 per tent set up breakdown fee , plus $5 per night tent rental. Our family has owned this property for nearly fifty years. We currently have one site available - “Desert Mountain Scenic Overlook” - at this time. More sites coming soon! Learn more about this site: This campsite is extremely private and serene with beautiful epic views and a wide open feel. The site is located most of the way up a small mountain but at the base of a larger one if you want to hike up to the top for even better views. You can also hike down and around to explore more of the surrounding nature preserve (over 3,000 acres completely engulfing our 20 acre property), which includes a seasonal creek, granite boulders, and miles of hiking trails. You will find wild sage and buckwheat shrubs growing all over the property, as well as vibrant seasonal wildflowers. The campsite is set far back from roads so it is very peaceful and quiet and allows you to feel free to enjoy yourselves without worrying much about noise. The large flat pad is spacious and should be able to accommodate any sized camper/trailer/RV. There is fresh potable mountain spring water and a septic hookup available at the site. There is currently no water hookup for RV’s and there is no restroom facility (we are planning to install a composting or pit toilet soon). Please come fully equipped with a Luggable Loo or something similar. Access to the site is on a maintained dirt road with cutouts for water run off. 4WD is not necessary. Please be prepared though, the road in has some narrow, hilly, curvy stretches. It could appear challenging or intimidating to people with larger rigs. If you have a class A motorhome and are hoping to visit, please message me first and let me know and we can discuss whether the road in will work for you. We are currently in the process of beautifying the area and will post more updated photos soon of the actual site. *Note: Our solar pump went out so the outdoor shower is not currently functional. Also, the site is still a work in progress so there may be some lumber and areas of the site still in the process of being completed.
