We are a short drive to Guelph Lake, the Elora Gorge, Guelph to Goderich rail trail, and a 25-minute drive to St Jacob's farmers market. And a 1.4 km walk to a small country market and bakery. A great site for families that you can call home and plan day trips around the area, or hang out at the campsite. Firewood is available for purchase on-site. We have 3 campsites that are spread out on 4 acres of grass. 1 site is used for temporary summer trailers, 2 are for camping. Pets are welcome, but keep them on a leash. Please remember to remove all garbage and recycling from campsites, a compost bin is available on site by the garden. A portable toilet is available from June 1 to September 30. You will be the only booking on our complete 70 acres, so you can enjoy this piece of country in privacy. Cook all your own food over a campfire, or try area restaurants or pizza (5+ km away). A tent structure with a 'thunder box' set-up brings you privacy for bathroom needs. You will be expected to dispose of your waste in the compost bins provided. There are two tables and seating for four, a swing to enjoy gazing over the river, and a few other spaces to discover. Wake to the gobble of wild turkeys and possibly the yipping of coon kits or wild coyotes. Bring your pet. You can drive your own 4x4 near (but not onto) the campsite when it's dry. The last hill is carry-in. Or you can choose to begin your detox with a 1 km moderately challenging hike through woods, fields and meadow while we run your supplies back. Buy campfire bundles or gather your own from abundant amounts of deadfall in the woods. During the day you can wade up the river or dangle a line. It is a fantastic place to view wildlife. Our completely off-the-grid little rustic one-room cabin with a screened-in porch, by the wildlife pond, where you will camp, was built by hand by my father. (see photos) Experience our rewilding. Practice your bushcraft. Writers, painters, musicians, and poets have created and composed in our little cabin by the pond. All Profits from the campsite go toward maintaining our native wildlife habitat sanctuary. We are private property and not a public campground. Local Attractions: Our wildlife sanctuary/organic farm is 18 km from Stratford where you can rent canoes and paddle boats to use on the Avon River. There are several grocery stores there. There is a great swimming quarry in St. Marys which is just 17 km away. There are two grocery stores in St. Marys. Lakeside Resort is 7 km away and is a good place to take small children swimming. There is additional hiking at Wildwood Lake Conservation Area and Harrington Mill Pond Conservation Area. Both just North of us. Canoes can be rented at Wildwood. We are a 5 minute drive away from Happy Hills Resort where you can buy ice. The closest general store, Embro Food Market where you can buy ice and food 7 days a week is in Embro which is 14 km away. Lake Huron which has great beaches is about a 55 minute drive away.
